Carbon-based bipedal ride-or-die Zevonhead. Just zis guy, you know? Dad / Allotment / Gills
The 20th anniversary reissue of The Darkness' second album One Way Ticket to Hell ...and Back is released today and I'm pleased and proud to say that they've wheeled their old webmaster - that's me - out of retirement to write 4,000-odd words of liner notes for the 4CD edition.

Please, to enjoy!

How I spent my afternoon at the allotment. I'd accumulated not one but three piles of cut buddleia and pyrocantha branches which were getting in the way so a bonfire was required. Night Sight on the Pixel 8 makes this look way lighter than it actually was, it was taken an hour after sunset!

Couldn't even get my latest delivery from @brighterdayvinyl.bsky.social out of the packaging before this happened...

Deeply naff design and typography and a pic that looks like a passport photo but oh boy, the music inside: www.discogs.com/release/8954...

It's long since been superseded by much more comprehensive collections, but this was the best there was when I started digging into 'Plonk', maybe it still is?

If you see this, post an album cover with a car (truck, motorcycle, tractor) on it.

A few recent acquisitions for #weekendsingles. Most are Spanish from Daily Records and Revolver Records in Barcelona. All have jubebox centres.

Prices seemed a bit dear, but hey I was on holiday. 'Let It Be' bought for the outstanding 'You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)' on the flip, obviously.

I thought I'd catalogue my latest arrivals from @brighterdayvinyl.bsky.social on @discogsofficial.bsky.social, but apparently Luna has other ideas.

#weekendsingles When I arrived at Wembley last Sunday to see the recently reheated Starlight Express (quite good, but not as good as it was in 1991) I was bummed to see boxes being wheeled out of a record fair at Boxpark. Managed to snag these four up before it was completely over. A bargain at £9!

Now do the ones that invented the sector 😄

Someone is ready for work, even if I'm not quite there yet myself...

Let's hear it for the #Gills! 21 games unbeaten, can they make it 22 vs Harrogate Town?

Shamelessly piggy backing this hit tweet to say that the album is re-released on its 20th anniversary in November and I wrote the sleeve notes. Darkness enthusiasts are going to love it.

The cat's well and truly out of the bag now so I can talk about it. 24 years ago this month @simonprice.bsky.social recommended that I check out a new band, The Darkness. I loved them, and went on to work for them as webmaster and aide-de-camp. In November they re-release this, their second album.

Happy #GotchaDay to Luna, who's lived with us for one year today 😻

Justin Hawkins of The Darkness made a pretty good Screaming Lord Sutch in Nick Moran's 2009 Joe Meek biopic 'Telstar'.

Wow! I thought you usually only played one opponent at a time! Good for her!

I've never seen it, but I've been to some of the places where it was filmed and I know that Northern Ireland was used much more by Game of Thrones than Croatia was. Though whether it's still a "European land" is, I suppose, a matter for debate.

I had a red Matchbox one as a kid and have had a soft spot for it ever since. I see Mat has exquisite taste in cars - (super)mini based pick-ups FTW

Nothing to make a guy feel old on his daughter's 16th birthday than booking her a train ticket and realising she's now an adult. (TIL that the 16-17 Saver railcard is a thing.)
