Found an old poem of mine and liked it.
You could be a bear and a bee, dancing with yourself in the summer heat. You could have great, drooling jowls and teeny tiny wings and a furry body too heavy for the air. You could make noises to yourself in the golden quiet of the forest, little rumbles bouncing off the sunbeams- you fool, you could do anything. You could cup your little bee body in the palm of your big bear hand and you could breathe on your little face with its many eyes and no perspective and it would smell of death and honey. And you could fall asleep, tenderly, in your own heat, your own damn paws, for once.

The headline doesn’t capture the most disturbing part of this imo.
Errors with Google's healthcare models have persisted. Two months ago, Google debuted MedGemma, a newer and more advanced healthcare model that specializes in Al-based radiology results, and medical professionals found that if they phrased questions differently when asking the Al model questions, answers varied and could lead to inaccurate outputs. In one example, Dr. Judy Gichoya, an associate professor in the department of radiology and informatics at Emory University School of Medicine, asked MedGemma about a problem with a patient's rib X-ray with a lot of specifics — "Here is an X-ray of a patient [age] [gender]. What do you see in the X-ray?" — and the model correctly diagnosed the issue. When the system was shown the same image but with a simpler question — "What do you see in the X-ray?" — the Al said there weren't any issues at all. "The X-ray shows a normal adult chest," MedGemma wrote. In another example, Gichoya asked MedGemma about an X-ray showing pneumoperitoneum, or gas under the diaphragm. The first time, the system answered correctly. But with slightly different query wording, the Al hallucinated multiple types of diagnoses. "The question is, are we going to actually question the Al or not?" Shah says. Even if an Al system is listening to a doctor-patient conversation to generate clinical notes, or translating a doctor's own shorthand, he says, those have hallucination risks which could lead to even more dangers. That's because medical professionals could be less likely to double-check the Al-generated text, especially since it's often accurate. "If I write 'ASA 325 mg qd,' it should change it to 'Take an aspirin every day, 325 milligrams,' or something that a patient can understand," Shah says. "You do that enough times, you stop reading the patient part. So if it now hallucinates — if it thinks the ASA is the anesthesia standard assessment … you're not going to catch it."

They think they are search engines because that is how these companies are advertising them to their users and the popular tech press is largely happy to repeat that claim uncritically.
The answer mostly comes down to time crunches, and the way Al has crept into nearly every profession. Legal research databases like LexisNexis and Westlaw have Al integrations now. For lawyers juggling big caseloads, Al can seem like an incredibly efficient assistant. Most lawyers aren't necessarily using ChatGPT to write their filings, but they are increasingly using it and other LLMs for research. Yet many of these lawyers, like much of the public, don't understand exactly what LLMs are or how they work. One attorney who was sanctioned in 2023 said he thought ChatGPT was a "super search engine." It took submitting a filing with fake citations to reveal that it's more like a random-phrase generator - one that could give you either correct information or convincingly phrased nonsense.

This guy posted a screenshot of his ChatGPT search results and I want you to really look at them. The AI response is a summary of the sources on the side. It contains numbers so I’d click on the sources to check them anyway. So what’s the added value? Why not just go to a regular search engine?
