The Tunisian Association for Justice and Equality (DAMJ) has reported that some 71 LGBT persons, the majority of whom are transgender women, have been arrested recently in certain regions in #Tunisia. Many have already been sentenced. See the links in comments to learn more.

According to REDRESS, during Malawi’s session to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) for its 4th Universal Periodic Review, several UN Member States urged Malawi to decriminalise consensual same-sex relations and take steps to protect LGBT people from harm. See the links in comments to learn more.

🚨 On 1 September, the unelected transitional legislative assembly in #BurkinaFaso unanimously adopted amendments to the country’s Persons and Family Code, including a new provision banning the promotion of homosexuality.

It is unclear as yet whether the law is in force. More information to follow.

Last week, the Trust was invited by Lesotho's Ministry of Law and our partner organisation, The People’s Matrix, to deliver hate crimes and communications training in the capital Maseru. The meetings were attended by legislators, government officials & leaders representing a range of civil society.

When supporting governments with protective legislation, we understand that drafting is just the starting point. For a law to be effective, it must be clearly understood and effectively enforced so where possible, we also provide assistance with implementation.

Last week, our Chief Executive, @teabraun.bsky.social, was honoured to attend the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. She was invited by His Majesty the King, on the recommendation of the Canadian High Commission who recognised Canadians who have made “excellent contributions in their field".

In March 2025, the Court of Appeal of Trinidad and Tobago allowed the appeal of the Attorney General in the case of Jason Jones v. Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago, thereby overturning the 2018 High Court ruling that had decriminalised consensual same-sex sexual activity.
