One thing worth mentioning is that steroids can cause cataracts w/ high-dose or longterm use. On one hand, everyone gets them eventually, but on the other hand, not being able to see out of one eye SUCKED (I’m in my 40s). You’re right about bodies being dumb: prednisone *gave* me terrible headaches!

Utah voters passed a fair redistricting law to have fair maps, the state GOP threw it in the trash and gerrymandered out the one democrat, voters sued, the Utah Sup Ct told the state leg they can’t ignore the voter-passed law, the lower state court threw out the GOP map and approved a fair map…TBC.

I really loved the book about Garfield, Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President, by Candice Millard.

But to be fair, I’ve seen pics/videos of trunk-or-treat events that look amazing, where people get SO creative and kids are having a lot of fun interactions. Not everyone can walk far or climb hilly streets and stairs, so I think it’s great to make trick or treating more accessible.

Never heard of it until I moved to Utah, where it’s a whole thing. Proudly, never took my kids to even one. We trick or treat, rain or shine—and even on Sundays—in this family! 👻

Young Frankenstein is a family favorite! It is a Mel Brooks film, but my kids are teens now.

This is my favorite soup recipe hands down; we substitute the chicken with leftover turkey after every Thanksgiving and make a few other tweaks. There are great mod suggestions in the recipe’s comments, too: www.americastestkitchen.com/recipes/3326...
Thai Chicken Soup
Traditional tom kha gai relies on ingredients such as galangal and makrut lime leaves to achieve bright, complex flavor. Our pared-down version gets these from store-bought red curry paste.

I agree! @joshmankiewicz.bsky.social is one of my favorite follows because 1) He’s a great human, and 2) His account has everything: Dateline/true crime, jokes, politics, entertainment, and even a medical journal repost about menopause misinfo! Who could ask for anything more?!

This was both informative and interesting. Thank you! Another area I’ve been hearing a lot about recently is exercise-related prevention (i.e., for bone loss), so I’ve been looking for evidence-based info/research on things like weighted vests, adding more weight/resistance training, etc.

Unsurprisingly, very questionable. This VICE article is great/informative though. So, I’m glad their nonsense prompted me to research and read it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ When bad actors make you better and smarter, that seems like a good outcome.

“Several experts…who weren’t involved in this study told VICE it’s too weak to base meaningful conclusions on. The sample was small and narrow. The experiment…brief. And the potential confounding variables…numerous.... [T]he study acknowledges its limitations openly.” www.vice.com/en/article/t...
Does Testosterone Affect Your Politics?
The far right seized upon a study that said administering T could cause a “red shift” in Democrats. Reality isn't so simple.
