I watched Del Toro’s Frankenstein — visually stunning, with beautiful design, locations, and music. But the story didn’t hit me as much as it did in the book. Victor was an arrogant jerk I couldn’t sympathize with, making him the real monster, unlike the more ambiguous book. Victor’s descent ➡️

I finished reading Frankenstein — seeing it on a shelf in Death Stranding 2 and del Toro’s new movie pushed it to the top of my backlog. I feared it would be too much of a horror story, but it turned out to be an great psychological novel about personality formation and the spiral of revenge.

You can see a bit of a downgrade in OT0’s visuals compared to OT2, but most areas still look great. The music is fantastic. Combat feels the same, so it’s great. The town-building/restoration stuff didn’t really grab me, and swapping 8 protagonists for a silent MC doesn’t feel very “Octopath”.

I hardly ever play platformers, and Wonder is the first Mario game I’ve ever finished. And it was great! An incredible whirlwind of ideas and clever design. The only things I’d criticize are the lower variety of boss fights and the fact that the game didn’t push me more to switch badges.

My TGA predictions:

- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (winner)
- Hollow Knight: Silksong
- Death Stranding 2
- Hades 2
- Split Fiction
- Donkey Kong: Bananza

Personally, I’d love to see Arc Raiders there, but it probably won’t make it. But I’m guessing it will win the award for sound design.

By coincidence, I happened to be on vacation in Busan during the G-Star event. Krafton, NCSoft, and Netmarble dominated, but there were also a few non-Korean exhibitors.

I would never have thought that anything this year could come close to the soundtrack of Clair Obscur, and even less that it would be the soundtrack of an extraction shooter, but this is brilliant.

We took down Bastion in Arc Raiders with two randoms. I was kinda worried there’d be some fight over the loot, but we just split it peacefully. Really nice moment — love that people in this game are usually chill and respectful.

I would never want to be asked which FF is my favorite, but if it came up, Tactics would be a candidate. An amazing story about corruption, power, idealism versus pragmatism, and how winning can sometimes mean losing. The post-credits scene really hit me. The best TRPG I've ever played in every way.

Yesterday we finished the co-op campaign of Portal 2 (DLC included) – the puzzles are even more fun than in single-player, and GLaDOS is as brilliantly sarcastic as ever. Peak level design. Teamwork-wise, probably the best I’ve played (physics-based logic with a focus on coordination suits me well).

I’m still thrilled with FF Tactics, and it will probably go down as the best tactical RPG I’ve ever played. And this podcast series is absolutely fantastic, it helps me follow the story much better. (even though the game has a wonderfully crafted in-game encyclopedia)
The penultimate episode of our FINAL FANTASY TACTICS analysis dropped today! This episode covers the entirety of chapter 3. Ramza is a heretic, Wiegraf ruins my life, the Gospel of Judas makes an appearance...much to talk about. Hope you love the show today—links below!⬇️⬇️⬇️

#PacificDrive – it’s nice to be back!
The only problem is remembering the controls after all this time. I picked up what was probably an important story-related audiotape, and instead of putting it in my inventory, I made a big swing and threw it into the woods. Never found it again.

Is anyone planning to play Whispers in the Woods (the Pacific Drive DLC that came out today)? I’m curious how much scarier it is compared to the base game.

I’m replacing skill with perseverance :)

An amazing game, one of the best of the year. I’ve got so much to say about it that it’d turn into a very long thread, so I’ll let it sit for a bit and come back to writing about Silksong later.

It was a long journey, but I got to Act 3 in Silksong and I’m completely amazed. It feels crazy that Team Cherry hid something like that after the credits. An incredible game, even though it’s really hard for me—the longer I play it, the more I love it.

Next Fest impressions:

REANIMAL
It stands out mainly for its visuals and atmosphere; I really liked the character animations. I played in co-op, the shared camera worked well, but I found the use of cooperation and the originality of the puzzles somewhat weak.

Valor Mortis test impression – it’s fine, but I have an issue with the 1st person view. Sometimes I had trouble noticing enemies coming from the side. Otherwise, it played well, with a satisfying parry and something like Bloodborne’s rally. Visually nice, gore fans will enjoy it.
I died a lot.

I’m in Chapter 2 of FF Tactics and it feels like the hardest tRPG I’ve played so far. Yasumi Matsuno clearly has a thing for complex game systems... but it’s absolutely brilliant.
Today I read this article from 2013, and imo it’s the best game guide on the internet :D

I made it to the top of the mountain today! Considering that just two weeks ago I couldn’t even land a single pogo jump, I’m pretty proud of how far I’ve come.
The platforming in Silksong is super hard for me and takes forever, but that just makes it even more satisfying when I finally pull it off.

One of the games I envied PS1 owners the most. It finally arrived 😊.
I may already have four games in progress, but a fifth one is about to be added.

This article feels as if I had written it myself, word for word. In Clair Obscur I walked in circles several times, and in Silksong I never take off the compass. It’s a hard life.

Shakra isn’t just a cool singer, but also a cool fighter. She completely smashed this little fly in about half the number of hits it takes me. Too bad she can’t go everywhere with me.

Justice for All looks like the first Phoenix Wright and plays the same. Case quality is uneven — the last one was amazing, but I had to force myself through the second-to-last. The great soundtrack returns. Humor is sometimes awesome, sometimes a bit cringe.
