I don’t mean to downplay the seriousness of these attempts to dismantle academia with national security theater. I do think perhaps some of us are startled to see the deportation machine coming more aggressively to more privileged communities. Reminds me of post-9-11 abuses, NSEERS etc.

And in the US despite legal protections in federal law under the Violence Against Women Act & Trafficking Victims Protection Act,we know that local LE is often unaware of these protections,ICE & CBP often ignore them,& the last Trump Administration implemented innumerable barriers in accessing them

It's being driven by those who are profiting from human misery, whether on the push side, or on the pull side.

We lost our homes, our businesses, and our livelihoods. It was a devastating time.

Today I hear echoes of that time in the plans of the Trump administration. They want to round up and deport millions of undocumented migrants and deploy the military and build detention camps to carry this out. /3
