Kugler brought up comparative advantage, which seems quaint in context. But made me wonder what the template is for what will/should be made domestically and what should/will still be imported. And for working families what does a line like this look like 10 years for now...

One measure the Fed watches -- jobs per unemployed as a measure of supply/demand balance -- can be choppy month to month, but averaged over three had drifting a bit higher through January...See if it holds through whatever is coming...

Wonder whether this from the USDA -- "Prices for national trading of trucklot quantities of graded, loose, White Large shell eggs increased $0.68 to $6.55 per dozen with a higher undertone" -- more determines the mood over time or this from BLS...rent disinflation underway and new rents falling yoy

The unaddressed issue, which it seems you need to grapple with given the situation, is that under Trump and (initially) Biden the "more" for G was "more" for people. What are the welfare outcomes if you nix COVID response or if the Fed tried to front-run expected inflation with a 2022 recession?

A year ago the Fed thought it had the last mile problem tackled on inflation and year-end 2025 rate outlook fell. Then they lost faith in early 2024 and it rose, then it fell again...Expect today's SEPS will go up...Market pricing has them about a half-point shy.

Along with the new SEPS it will be interesting to look in the weeds of the risk/diffusion indexes they now publish to see if/how that has shifted since September...It has been improving...Has recent data/the election changed that? (Zero here means about as uncertain as usual)
