Before the 1981 Grey Cup, there was some back and forth between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Ottawa Rough Riders. And at times it wasn't necessarily pretty....
It's all laid out in my latest book, An Unlikely Story. Check the comments below for the links to order it.

I've seen a few references to Maurice Richard on the socials today. Not sure why but it made me think of this beauty I found at the Pickering Flea Market a few years back. Yes, it's signed.

Good night. Happy Sunday.
(This pic is not from tonight. It's a pic I found in my phone from July. Cheers, all.)

About An Unlikely Story, David Naylor wrote on the back cover, "An entertaining and surprisingly enlightening reflection on an Ottawa Rough Rider season for the ages - one that fell just short." The CFL Ottawa Alumni Association called it "a must-read for Ottawa football fans".

Watching the Buffalo Sabres game and saw this. The possibilities, while not endless, might be compelling, were I a much younger man....

Just wild. 40 years ago tonight, on Monday Night Football, Joe Theismann had his career ended. His Washington Redskins were playing the New York Giants. Harry Carson and Lawrence Taylor were tackling him and his leg was pinned, twisted and fractured. He never played again.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders won the Grey Cup tonight. And they did it on the field of their biggest rivals. So leave it to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to put it all into perspective for everyone...

Championship games are the best. I believe Fred Shero was the first to say this. Actually, he wrote it on the chalkboard in the Flyers' dressing room. 'Win today and we will walk together forever." These Saskatchewan Roughriders will now walk together forever.

It's halftime at the Grey Cup game and Saskatchewan is leading 15-7 over Montreal. Anyway it's time for some chili. I should have put it together yesterday, but I didn't have time. So it's still early, but it's not bad. Tomorrow, it will be better. Happy second half, everyone!!

It's Grey Cup week. Between 1960 and 1976, the Ottawa Rough Riders appeared in six Grey Cups and won five. 1981 was the franchise's last big hurrah. Here are some screen grabs from that 1981 game. It didn't turn out the way Ottawa players and fans wanted, but the Riders were 22.5 point dogs going in
