Thirty years ago tonight, a horrible night in Montreal. A few months later, it would result in a slap in the face to hockey fans throughout Quebec and anyone who cared about the Habs or Nordiques.
Read all about it (and much more) in my book The Consequences of Chance. Get it on Amazon.

Lookin' out at the road rushin' under my wheels
Lookin' out at the years gone by like so many summer fields
'65, I was 17 and runnin' up 101
I don't know where I'm runnin' now, I'm just runnin' on...

Found this tonight. It's from the men's league in Brockville. Some good hockey there. More than thirty years ago now. I remember making a glove save on that play, but we lost the game. Full story on Page B2!! 😀

In our most recent Sports Lunatics Show episode, I posted a show from four episodes. Postmedia's Ken Warren talks about the Bob in Hull. Shawn Lavigne talks about George Foreman. I talk on the importance of Aug 12, 1994. SiriusXM's Mick Kern talks about Ken Dryden. Wherever you get your podcasts.

Every so often, I'll come across a post that stops me in my tracks. This post did that. The fact that Tony Gabriel took the time to read my book and send me this thoughtful comment was awesome. Thanks so much, Tony! Christmas is coming. Be like Tony. Get my book, An Unlikely Story! 😀

Colleen Jones passed away after a battle with cancer. This was a part of her philosophy of life from a piece that Devin Heroux wrote for cbc.ca.

Before the 1981 Grey Cup, there was some back and forth between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Ottawa Rough Riders. And at times it wasn't necessarily pretty....
It's all laid out in my latest book, An Unlikely Story. Check the comments below for the links to order it.

I've seen a few references to Maurice Richard on the socials today. Not sure why but it made me think of this beauty I found at the Pickering Flea Market a few years back. Yes, it's signed.

Good night. Happy Sunday.

About An Unlikely Story, David Naylor wrote on the back cover, "An entertaining and surprisingly enlightening reflection on an Ottawa Rough Rider season for the ages - one that fell just short." The CFL Ottawa Alumni Association called it "a must-read for Ottawa football fans".

Watching the Buffalo Sabres game and saw this. The possibilities, while not endless, might be compelling, were I a much younger man....

Just wild. 40 years ago tonight, on Monday Night Football, Joe Theismann had his career ended. His Washington Redskins were playing the New York Giants. Harry Carson and Lawrence Taylor were tackling him and his leg was pinned, twisted and fractured. He never played again.

If you're wondering if you should get my latest book, An Unlikely Story, check out this review from the Ottawa CFL Alumni Association newsletter.
They describe the book as being "rich in detail" and call it "a heartfelt tribute to a team that captured the spirit of underdog perseverance."

The Saskatchewan Roughriders won the Grey Cup tonight. And they did it on the field of their biggest rivals. So leave it to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to put it all into perspective for everyone...

Championship games are the best. I believe Fred Shero was the first to say this. Actually, he wrote it on the chalkboard in the Flyers' dressing room. 'Win today and we will walk together forever." These Saskatchewan Roughriders will now walk together forever.

It's halftime at the Grey Cup game and Saskatchewan is leading 15-7 over Montreal. Anyway it's time for some chili. I should have put it together yesterday, but I didn't have time. So it's still early, but it's not bad. Tomorrow, it will be better. Happy second half, everyone!!
