For 30 years I've been a community marine campaigner. A recent 2024 resume of what I & our island community have achieved so far. https://www.goldmanprize.org/blog/prize-winners-today-restoring-scotlands-seas-with-howard-wood/
Pleased Sir David Attenborough has joined me to state that Scallop Dredging should be removed from inshore seas @mairigougeon.bsky.social
Have you watched OCEAN Attenborough's latest epic full-length film yet? It broke box office records for attendees in its 1st week #ReviveOurOcean #InshoreLimit

It's a breezy showery day on Arran. Being an island we have a very healthy population of Red #Squirrels #Arran #Scotland

It's been a stormy day here looking out on the Firth of Clyde, but compared to others due to being on an east coast of the island we have got off lightly.

Recovering #Biodivesity is simple. Just remove the activity degrading it most and see what happens. @johnswinney.bsky.social

Most winter mornings, I have company while having breakfast. A few of our Red Squirrels take on much darker coats at this time of year.

Curled octopus (Eledone cirrhosa) One of my favourite species, sat in the Lamlash No Take Zone watching Juvenile Cod shoals. It's my perfect type of dive.

3 decades ago we identified Scallop Dredging around our island as very detrimental to the health of our seas. BUT to most folk it's "Out of Sight out of Mind" We used the visual image to educate our island community. Now half our island's seabeds out to 3 miles are protected, it was worth it.

Its a wild & windy today looking out of my window at the Clyde. So it's nice to remember a dive this summer in my village Whiting Bay, within the South Arran MPA. Lucky to have 4km bed of Seagrass on my doorstep.
