Living legend Derrick Harriott celebrates his 87th birthday tomorrow.

In the early 60s Derrick was the first singer in Jamaica to become a producer. Here's an excellent version he did of Slave, The Temptations' 1969 epic...

John Peel first played the JA 7" of Uptown Top Ranking on his Radio 1 show in Oct '77. He later said "That is one of very few records that I can claim some credit for having been a hit."

In the early '60s Shenley Duffus was a regular at Studio 1 and recorded several hits for Coxsone Dodd.

Bangarang was released in the UK on Pama's Unity label in Nov '68.

In December, Pama started publishing a weekly 'Hot 10' of their best selling singles from their multiple labels.

Bangarang was No. 1 in their chart for 4 weeks in Jan '69...

Happy 50th birthday to Black Echoes which was first published #OTD in 1976.

It was a weekly music paper in the UK focussed on black music. It still continues to this day as a monthly magazine.

Happy 77th birthday to The Heptones' Leroy Sibbles.

While at Studio 1 in 1968 Leroy wrote his most political songs, including the magnificent Soul Power.
