Virtual Power Plant (#VPP) is a broad term for incentive programs to reduce peak grid load. Utilities pay a $$$ during 'peak of the peak' energy demand on summer afternoons - often more than 10x the cost per kwh of base load. When utilities can't supply enough energy, you get brownouts / blackouts.

Not that I'm against the subsidies - if peak demand really gets to 900 GW, we need more investment in the grid.

I'm not sure the math on incentives work to expand #VPP adoption AND decrease energy costs. Backup generation runtime is very expensive and Consumers are selfish when it comes to comfort

Some #chartcrime going on here, but FERC increased their forecast of the peak grid load by 5-10%

If this plays out, it will be interesting how much will be handled by subsidized #VPP + battery energy storage vs gas peaker plants

If the grid fails only the unsubsidized one will get the blame

H2 FCEV fuel can have much higher energy density than BEV. When combined with rapid refueling without grid infra changes, no wonder its preferable to batteries in the majority of high utilization heavy-duty vehicle fleets.

plot for the cost of CO2 capture from different industrial facilities (including 45Q and Cali LCFS credits). I don't know how green electrolysis derived H2 will be able to compete with blue CCUS given with this level of subsidy.
