Just a Canadian mom, pissed off about the direction of the world that we’re leaving for our children.

Happy Pride month 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈
Amazing that the argument here is “protests definitely need to be allowed to happen at schools and should not be stopped but if people are protesting something I personally deem to be inappropriate I’m sure someone will step in to stop it and that’s ok”. Thought that one all the way through 👍

That’s funny, I recall an anti-LGBTQ protest at a grade school in my area just a few weeks ago because some bigots took issue with the pride flag. And guess who made them leave? Nobody.

Can you explain how thinking kids shouldn’t have to deal with (potentially hateful) protests at their schools makes me a bootlicker?

Amazing how literally everyone who disagrees has immediately reported to childish name calling and simultaneously acted morally superior. Wild stuff. Very mature.
June 28, 2025 at 11:21 PM
You know it really is wild how toxic it gets over here when you state an opinion that goes against the grain. Everyone on BlueSky likes to think they’re better than people on X and then attack and insult anyone that disagrees with them. I stand by my post. Thanks!

Oh I see, so my child’s ability to attend school and get an education is at the whim of anyone and everyone who wants to protest for as long as they want to protest? And are you suggesting that parents would be told in advance and protests could never start after kids arrived at school already?
June 28, 2025 at 11:01 PM
I’m really sorry that happened to you. I have 4 children and have had to deal with bullying, though thankfully not to the extent it seems you may have. I am truly sorry that you ever had to experience that. And you’re right, reporting often doesn’t do as much as it should.

I think the school board is the more appropriate location. There is no place for any policy like that in today’s society. None. And it should be protested until it is changed. I just don’t think that should happen at the schools. Allowing that means we also need to allow the hateful protests.

I have a son who struggles with sensory processing and separation. It’s taken 4 years and several therapists and just now we occasionally have days where I take him to school and he doesn’t cry. He loves it once he’s there but struggles at drop off. 1 protest and he would never feel safe to go back
June 28, 2025 at 10:50 PM
You know, I may be willing to re-think the issue regarding churches because that’s a fair point but not schools. Protest at the school board? Absolutely! Report teachers for violating student’s rights? Absolutely. Making kids that are too young to understand feel unsafe at school? Not so much.
June 28, 2025 at 10:47 PM
Sorry who ever said they were supporting legislating against all protesting?

I would understand all this anger towards that argument but how is saying “I think maybe a public school isn’t the right place” the same as saying “I don’t agree anyone should protest ever?”
June 28, 2025 at 10:43 PM
Absolutely I understand that. I will always support the right to protest. My question is whether a grade school is the appropriate location for that.

It was my intent to be condescending . But you’re the one who immediately resorted to insults so maybe you should reconsider your approach as well.
June 28, 2025 at 10:39 PM
Not trying to be argumentative but just genuinely want to learn. Can you explain to me why it was necessary to protest at a grade school to gain equality? And are you equally ok with right-wing anti-LGBTQ+ groups protesting at schools? Because that’s my concern.
June 28, 2025 at 10:33 PM
Sorry you feel that way. It’s not my intention to insult. Just to support my family and friends who are part of the LGBTQ community. That includes the school aged ones who don’t want to walk through protests against the pride flag that have occurred at their schools and just want to feel safe there.
June 28, 2025 at 10:23 PM
But you’re fine with giving away a child’s right to feel safe arriving at school. How generous of you.
June 28, 2025 at 4:46 PM
Last month a group of racist old bitties protested the pride flag in front of a grade school. Imagine how LGBTQ children felt going to school that day.

People having views different from yours doesn’t make them ignorant. Claiming it does is exactly why people can’t have fruitful discourse anymore
June 28, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Is it? Or is it saying you can definitely still protest but not in a way that prevents kids from going to school or people from worshiping or exercising other protected rights because they feel intimidated by protesters? Maybe this is striking a balance between competing rights?

Real “I’m going to take my ball and go home” vibes.

Watching all of this unfold from Canada and it all seems so surreal and unbelievable. Can’t imaging what it must be like to be an informed American watching SCOTUS systematically dismantle your civil rights one at a time.

We never wanted to be the 51st state. Can’t imagine anyone wondering why now
June 27, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Correct. Compared to almost everywhere else in the world, both major US political parties are right-wing.

We have evidence from everywhere that the Israelis are ordered to literally open fire at Palestinians waiting in line for food and aid. Israeli soldiers who have themselves participated in the massacres are simply telling us.

They are hunting human beings
