There’s some big insights in here and some pointed criticism at Berman.

…but I’m stuck on one GM saying that Angel City is setting the bar for the league.

Gorgeous day for some A10 soccer.

It's not just the heat; elevated conditions also worsen day to day air quality. Leagues should be especially concerned about the increase of 40+ stagnant air days in South Texas and California. That affects players, fans, and anyone already predisposed to asthma and breathing difficulties.

The above chart shows that Denver has experienced double the number of extreme heat days from 2020-2024 as it did in the 2010s.

Below shows the number of heat-related illnesses reported throughout the country on July 26th - most likely the future MLS kickoff weekend.

It's dangerous for fans, too.

Heat and humidity don't just affect performance; they affect perceived exertion and the ability to recover as core temps stay elevated post-game state efforts.

Clubs are aware and have methods of mitigating some of these factors, but continued exposure to extreme temps is increasingly dangerous.

Something that I've been working on in the background over the past few months is a greater understanding of the effects of continued climate change throughout the US and how it will affect summer soccer.

Texas summers are going to become untenable if we aren't technically there already.

My closing remarks previewing this match. It remains difficult to beat a team three times in a season.

Corey Wray had a lot to say in his intro presser, some highlights:

Thanks ownership and Diego Gigliani for their trust.
A clear need to expand the #allforcity scouting and analytic apparatus.
More conversations about player movement throughout the club.

“There are good pieces here.”
