Our goals here, as they've been on Twitter and FB, are the same:

1. Get you to warmly embrace the Horizon League
2. Encourage the liberal use of the #HLMBB and #HLWBB tags
3. Be okay with Wright, Cleveland and Youngstown not being states
4. Reinforce that Jack Gohlke is a damned folk hero
Cleveland State's trip to the Greenbrier Classic was anything but boring, with the Vikings splitting their games over the weekend. Greg Kula has the story. #HLMBB
Vikings “Kent” Beat Golden Flashes But Salvage Greenbrier MTE with “Rad” Win
The Cleveland State Men’s Basketball team (1-2 going into the weekend) had a doozy of a weekend. Scoring almost 100 points versus another Northeast Ohio school (but losing) and storming back to beat a school Wright State demolished certainly was an interesting watch. The MTE (Multiple Team Event) at Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV was anything but boring for the Vikings.

Youngstown State used hot starts in both the first and third quarters - along with a fantasic game by Erica King - to down Bucknell on Sunday and improve to 3-1. James Moon has the recap.
Youngstown State Women’s Basketball Slides By Bucknell in Sunday Battle
The Youngstown State Penguins women's basketball team (3-1) kicked off both halves with great starts and never trailed in a tough 60-53 win over the Bucknell Bison (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at Zidian Family Arena at the Beeghly Center. Youngstown State got off to a hot start by scoring on their first four possessions of the day en route to an early 9-2 lead, with Sarah Baker hitting a turnaround shot to start it off.

Thanks largely to Jada Leonard's career-best effort - including 27 points and nine steals - Cleveland State started quickly and sent Akron back down I-77 with a 21-point loss. Here's what stood out to Kyle Rossi.
Cleveland State Starts Fast, Clears Akron: Five Observations
Thanks to fast starts out of the locker room to begin both the first and third quarters, Cleveland State was never seriously threatened by Akron on Sunday in the Wolstein Center, winning 76-55 to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2021-22. Here are five things that stood out from the rivalry (?) victory. 1. Jada Leonard could stand as the first, second, and third observations for the Vikings, and it wouldn’t be hyperbole.

Oakland's week was bookended by a pair of blowouts: One the Grizz suffered at the hands of No. 1 Houston, and the other one Oakland delivered to Defiance. Griffin Beers has the story. #HLMBB
Oakland Suffers Blowout at Hands of No. 1 Houston, Turns Tables Against NAIA Defiance
This week, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies experienced the extreme opposite ends of the college basketball spectrum. Wednesday brought a trip to No. 1 Houston, where the Cougars displayed ferocious activity defensively, storming to a massive 78-45 win. Saturday, it was Oakland’s turn overwhelm an opponent, taking down NAIA Defiance by a score of 113-47. When looking at the week that was, it needs to begin in Houston, where the Golden Grizzlies played a bit of history.

Matteo Correia's header midway through the second overtime period delivered Cleveland State men's soccer its third Horizon League tournament title on Saturday, launching a frenzy at Krenzler Field. Kyle Rossi has the recap.
Correia’s Extra-Time Header Clinches HL Men’s Soccer Title
Cleveland State, the Horizon League’s regular season champion and top seed, faced a dire dilemma deep into its conference final meeting with Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday afternoon. After untold chances were left wanting, the regulation 90 minutes weren’t enough to settle the affair. The first ten of extra time didn’t do much to help. As the clock spun through the second overtime period, the possibility of penalty kicks – that hated coin flip used to decide soccer outcomes worldwide – became a Sword of Damocles looming over the Vikings’ storybook season.

After 35 years of coaching, most of it spent leading a program, Steve Lanpher left a great situation at Division III Randolph College to join Chris Kielsmeier's staff. Why? As Kyle Rossi explains, the alignment was simply too good to pass up.
Lanpher Proving Two Heads Are Better Than One
It’s not physically possible to see and do everything, but new Cleveland State assistant coach Steve Lanpher has come awfully close, at least in college basketball terms. He’s been a Division I head coach, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology between 2012 and 2018, and built up to the position with the Highlanders through DI assistant roles at Vermont, UMass and, briefly, Lamar.
