Even though I’m a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, this is the first time making it into Chemistry World.

This took me 3 tries to finally get a copy that wasn’t so scratched (even with a VG+ rating). A 10/10 album. My favorite: Verdi Cries (close 2nd is A Campfire Song with Michael Stipe).

The movie that all horror movies are judged on. The best movie of the genre ever made.

A top 5 70’s album.

Not a bad haul at the pop up vinyl shop at my local brewery.

I’m seeing a lot of people (some friends) posting today wearing a red freedom shirt in memory of a podcaster. Funny, none of them ever post in memory of Sandy Hook or the other hundreds of school shootings. Just this one person, odd.

Yes it may break the high temperature today, but at least we have the start of college hockey. UNO Mavericks.

Well, I had a complaint lodged against me at my work due to a social media post from July. Had to be from a Twitter post and going back through I can assume which one since there are people looking for these posts. Fun to have an “ethics” complaint over a personal account.

Pretty good Saturday listen and Icarus (West Coast IPA). The song Singular Girl (demo) - “Talking to you girl is like long division”. Good lyric.

And now to the ‘00’s. My favorite band’s best album and best album side (of all time?).

I’m a product of the 80s and 90s music and grabbed this a couple weeks ago. Side 2 is simply awesome.

Thanks for this explanation.
1. After getting some further insight into changes at NSF (thanks to those who reached out), I deleted a previous post where I tried to make sense of Cheatham's memo as reported in the Science story below.

This is so sad. I was introduced to her music while in Pittsburgh listening to @wyep.bsky.social. Karen by Night was always my favorite.
Jill Sobule died in a house fire this morning.

The folk-pop artist and activist was best known for two 1995 singles: “I Kissed A Girl," considered America's first openly gay Top 20 hit, and "Supermodel” from the 'Clueless' soundtrack.

Sobule was 66.

Yet another bonehead decision. I have an R01 with a foreign subaward that is up for noncompetitive renewal in July. Hope this gets in before the October deadline.
NEW: An NIH policy coming in the next week will target — and at least temporarily stop — funding outside the US, threatening thousands of projects and collaborations on topics like infectious diseases and cancer.

Some NIH staff have already been told to hold all subaward funds for foreign labs.
Exclusive: NIH to suspend funds for research abroad as it overhauls policy
Move by US biomedical agency threatens thousands of projects on infectious diseases, cancer and more.

Anyone have experience appealing an NIH grant that was terminated? There is a process, just curious if any successful. Or is it too soon to know?
