The headshunt got quite crowded as 9681 also required coal. In the background were D9521, which took the year off, though does seem to have had some paint done, and 'Salty' (aka 6688). 'Wilbert' 3806 was also just visible. Again, the forest backdrop, though, was impressive.

Dean Forest Railway is definitely one of the more scenic railways in the UK, esp at this time of year.
Visitor 'Newstead' adds colour to the snap taken at Norchard. The coal was being loaded in readiness for Day 2 of the steam gala.

'Shunter Rodney' removes 08769 from the platform before propelling it back into the yard and onto the 'naughty siding' for subsequent repairs. Shame it couldn't have shunt the sun a bit further around beforehand.

It's not being particularly well publicised, but I can see 50021 Rodney is down to run at the Dean Forest Railway both days this weekend. Here he is 'warming up' last weekend.......(08769 was failing in the foreground, though was 'fixed' later in the day. Falling bridge damage just out of view)

The return of 26043 meant GWSR diesels were back to full strength (not counting the Fowler!) for a time this year.

It is. Typo re date. Apart from over a decade ago when swifts prev used the box, the next successful nest was 2022. Very late nest and the swiflet was still there mid Aug. Camera shy, but not compared to last two years when I am sure at least one fledged each year but were never seen out front.

One of the tasks, as I eventually worked out, was to add a 10t cattle wagon to the middle of the 'mixed rake'.
