Yeah, it took a bit to realize that there was literal rape presented as a positive thing that everyone was chill with. I did not get that when the movie came out.

We watched Deadpool and Wolverine last night. Huge amounts of gratuitous gore, but very enjoyable. No real message beyond that we’re all the wrong person to save the world, until we aren’t. I’d recommend light hearted gore over deeply meaningful gore any day!

Finding out someone you liked and trusted is unworthy of both is incredibly painful. I’m sorry for your loss.

I adore her, but not when overwhelmed! I enjoy books from my childhood—Joan Aiken, Andre Norton or Heinlein juveniles, The Egypt Game, Diamond in the Window, A Girl of the Limberlost. And carefully curated Romance—Pippa Grant, Mary Balogh, Jayne Ann Krentz, or a reread of Georgette Heyer.

Either an old children’s book like Aiken’s Wolves of Willoughby Chase, or a romance writer I can trust not to add manufactured drama. YA, SF, and Fantasy are all liable to have stress. Great when we are resilient, less so if we are not.

Depending on circumstances, I reread old children’s books—Aiken’s The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, say—or read a trusted Romance writer. Pippa Grant does hilarious contemporary romance with no manufactured drama and is 1st choice. Mary Balogh for historical, Jayne Ann Krentz for supernatural.

Getting paid pennies, and cannot be hired as firefighters after their sentence is served. Slavery never ended.

Same. It’s more public than FB, but better moderated. I tend not to put anything online I don’t want quoted in a headline in the local paper…but the older I get, the less of a deterrent that is.
