Well, 13th Age and Tales of the Valiant both address the "feelsbad" of missing.
13A 1e does miss damage, which can be the cause of holy wars.
ToV gains you luck which you can trade for bonuses to hit.
Misfire tables are "you miss AND something terrible happens".
Like Wild Magic! 😀

I don't expect you to have tried them extensively 😀
You'll have intuitions about how they're supposed to work and how they might work in a game compared to other weapons.
If you go back up to the top you can see a discussion forming.
What we _haven't_ touched on is misfire tables.
Not a fan 😉

And we don't have magic guns even. What's all that about?

I didn't experience you as abrasive at all. 😀
I value the curiosity, it's a rarer trait than you'd think. And when you increase your knowledge base, then I look forward to learning things from you.
Don't be afraid to make mistakes. They're a key part of the learning process and teach us things. 😀

Well, I don't intend to be rude to you, nor do I dislike you. I have an extensive block list of people I have no time for. 😀
I believe we can probably have awesome conversations! 👌

It's a bit more complex than that but the complexity is in weapon selection and properties not in play. 😀

I have played a lot of Vermintide which is a melée combat game but includes ranged options.
Quite fun and more accessible to a lot of people than the minutiae of historical realism (in DnD).
Therefore:
The implementation _feels like_ guns in vermintide. But is 5e dnd standard mechanics.

Complementary means: Offsetting mutual deficiencies or enhancing mutual strengths.
Blackpowder weapons were widely used before the modern age (e.g. in the "time period of dnd")
Massive damage made the very slow reload times worth it to the extent that the Native Americans adopted the technology.

I don't regard your autism as a bother. It's a trait we share.
I am excited at the idea of being able to have a conversation about these things with you.
But no worries! I'm not to everyone's taste and that's OK. 😀

I can tell you. Then you'll ask me a tonne of questions. Then you'll tell me none of it is connected.
Based on our last few conversations.
You seem like a decent sort, so I thought I'd volunteer my time to help you expand your frame of reference because _I_ would quite enjoy a more engaged talk 😀

The things that make Firearms more effective:
A) Massive damage
B) Being countered by very slow reload times.
Lead to counterintuitive choices.
Also, they _didn't_ quickly obsolete other weapons and armour. That's the thing.
Yet, we've got "Revolvers or nothing" as the choice.

Well good news. You have:
1. The 5e14
2. The 5e24
3. Free5e
4. The level up A5e rules to access
As creative commons documents.
So you have equivalent access to the rules.
I assumed that you wanted to know how I think, what with the questions about how I think and all. 😀
Not to worry!

Well, to understand where I'm coming from you need to understand the design space. Otherwise it's all just noise.

But PF1 solutions won't work in a 5e context. So we need a solution shaped space that makes firearms a choice but not the only one.
I assume that you've not bothered using firearms in 5e?

We would agree that 5e, in particular, is very bad at modelling armour penetration? 😀

Well, I'm trying to help you have something to contribute. 😀
The first step of that is forming a soft opinion by understanding the very basics of what is going on. 😀
I don't want to just say "this is my opinion" because then you're left not understanding.

Sure thing. I'm going to put it in a blog post, but if you want some practice thinking like a designer first tell me about how you use firearms in your game of DnD. 😀

It's called a D notice if telling the press to keep their mouths shut.
It's the official secrets act otherwise. Which doesn't have a section 3*.
