Meat & cheese are W(3)'s main foods. She'll eat other things too, so long as they're with the meat and cheese 😂 R(11) has ARFID, so all food is a challenge.

I'm with Ram Jam, I often buy my own bucket of berries, too 😄

It was never a war. It was always genocide.

Here's hoping you recover quickly 🤞🏻

Society says, "Every child is different!" but it also expects every child to learn in the exact same way. Home education allows parents to customise their children's learning based on their unique abilities & needs.
Most Western school systems are over 100 years out of date with their approach 🤷🏻

You're welcome 🙂

In my experience, a parent who worries about screentime isn't a parent who will allow too much screentime.😀

I woke up to the news and have just spent the morning scrolling through our past chats and crying. We were chatting just the other day. I can't believe they're gone.

Discouraging screentime is any screentime that is just bright colours and nonsense that doesn't promote thinking, learning, movement, or disccusion. Or shows/apps that result in unhealthy behaviours.

Any screentime that is actively engaged in by yourself with your child is beneficial, I believe.

If you asked me a decade ago, my answer would be very different from my current answer!

These days, I break screen time into two categories - encouraging and discouraging.

Encouraging screentime is any screentime that involves thinking, learning, movement, or discussion.

It also took a lot of deschooling on my and my partner's part. Once we let go of what we felt we "should" be doing and what our son "should" need and instead just ensured he was a happy and healthy kid, it became a lot easier.

I'm happy to offer encouragement when needed 😀

When my son was 3, we decided to homeschool him "just for now" as he had a speech impediment that made it so non-family members couldn't understand him. At that time, there wasn't much of a hs community locally. I remember how isolating it originally felt but with time we slowly built a community.

I don't know if his TTRPG is one of his projects that won't move past the ideas phase or if it's one he will continue to work at and make reality, but eitherway, I love his current excitement for it.

Indeed! 😄 I meant more for me to learn it as well so we can engage in it together 😀

Hello! There seems to be a lot of UK home educators here on Bluesky! 😀

I forgot that last year and the burnout by December was immense, so I'm making sure I learnt my lesson and it isn't repeated this year.

The issue now is that I've kind of forgotten how to do my own thing and what I enjoy doing. 😅

Homeschooling demographics are different depending on the country. What most people think homeschooling is, is a very US-centric, white religious version of homeschooling that isn't relevant or prevalent in other countries.

Religious and ideological homeschoolers were low on the list of causes for homeschooling prior to covid. Unfortunately, a lot of anti-vaxxers jumped on board when vaccines for students were required, affecting recent statistics. Many of them have now sent their kids back to mainstream school, though
