One of the best things I ever did for myself was stop comparing my life trajectory to people who have support systems. I won’t say I never had help, but I’m just now truly understanding the difference between “assistance” and “support”.

Writing is fine. It's literally the most embarrassing thing on earth to emotionally put yourself on full display for rejection or validation, but it's good. I enjoy it. I find it therapeutic to horrify myself.

I often find books online that I want to buy for my daughter.
I'd love to be able to check the font and layout of a page before ordering, as she's dyslexic and it makes such a huge difference to whether she will enjoy reading it.
Am I'm missing somewhere I could check?

Big thoughts for a nine year old... hopefully she can get some sleep!

I really thought a little bit of magic would be lost. I was very wrong!

There are many potential writers I talk to that haven't written anything because the idea of a novel feels intimidating. It is, for sure, but it's a lot less intimidating once you start. It's getting your butt in the chair that's the hardest part.

A great thing that John Kearns said on the Always Be Comedy podcast. When you get the end credits on films these days that go on for ages, why don’t we tell kids that those are all jobs they could do? Like, you can be part of this, it’s real.

This is a great way to support local authors.
If there are a sufficient number of holds placed on a title this results in extra copies being purchased so if there's a new Kiwi title you're keen on borrowing, put a hold on it!
This is somewhat true for NZ - though it’s based on copies held rathe than borrowings. Most people don’t know that authors in NZ only get compensated by the PLR for physical books, so borrowing an audiobook or an ebook does not help. It is nonsensical, yes. A book is a book.
