Always hated Nextdoor, never used it and that may be why they periodically bombarding my inbox with notifications to which I never subscribed and from which I always immediately unsubscribe.

Finally had enough. And yet I think they'll STILL send me those goddamn notifications.

Oh, you can fuck right off, person who only followed me to ask for money and whose posts I’ve never seen because I didn’t follow back.

They look like this. No vermicelli. Bright, crispy, crunchy. And the sauce isn’t peanut—a magical secret concoction in a fish sauce direction.

I was perfectly content until my mother put in my mind the fact I’m not also dining on the most perfect spring roll that exists.

When I had the coolest bike at my school haha. Coolness being subjective! But Schwinn beach cruisers were the thing where we lived. And mine was the fanciest because it had speeds—very unusual at the time—and gold trim.

Few time machines as effective as album tracks or singles that barely charted if you’ve haven’t played them much between then and now.

Gee, really? Part two.

Sister driving through town on her way to a ski weekend brought a package from my sainted mother: Her chocolate cake without any icing, baked this morning, which is one of the only desserts I have difficulty resisting.

A friend taking a jab asked where I got my vintage shirts and haha but also they’re not in nearly as many shops as they used to be.

I could see someone legitimately thinking they’re not made anymore.

So @msbellows is talking about the ‘70s show EMERGENCY! and I’m remembering my shock when it turned out Julie London—whom l’d considered a middle-aged nurse as a little kid—had been a serious jazz singer.

Haven’t been on Foothill specifically paying attention—but now wondering if David Geffen’s astonishing hedge technology is in place at the new house.

(I’m not joking. This was going on at his old house on Angelo Drive. (And also at his old house on PCH in Malibu.)

This was the house Casey Wasserman built in its place. And sold to David Geffen for $68 million.

It was on my usual evening constitutional route while it was being built and there was a construction army for years.

There weren’t actually all that many photos of the Lew and Edie Wasserman house—gone now—but this gives a sense of it.

Extremely pleased I’ll be lunching with my sister tomorrow. Happened upon this grainy scan of a photo in front of the Breakers at Newport circa 1980.

I’m sure Dad told me to put my arm around her and that was the best I was gonna do. When the inevitable photos […]

Seeing ‘Cortina’ everywhere is making me think of a Ford—there are more iconic generations, but this is the one from my youth that I keep imagining.

That time Pat Benatar looked retroactively like Helena Bonham Carter promoting a darker-than-usual Merchant Ivory picture.

And—in related news—thrilled to learn The Hat is opening a restaurant in Las Vegas. Old school LA joint. You can get a French dip there, but what you really want is the pastrami dip.

I usually prefer leaner pastrami, but The Hat’s is juicy and scrumptious and perfect in this sandwich.

If you have a more-than-passing interest in COLUMBO, this book is absolutely amazing. Tells the story of the show’s entire run literally through the production of each episode.

Just spectacular

You love to see it.

(Pahrump is 50 miles from the Strip. Sex work isn’t legal in Clark County—i.e. Vegas—but is legal in lightly populated rural counties.)
