Living for the chatter around this throw. Regardless of any coaching, running, etc, it was a great play.
RONALD ACUÑA JR. with the best throw I’ve ever seen. You won’t see anything better.

An absolute middle from deep right field 💣

Just finished my first full time academic year and parents were on campus today. One parent ran to catch me just to thank me for helping their kid as a dissertation supervisor. Gonna hold on to that little moment and kindness 💙

Looking to connect with others in #sportscience (#sportsci or #sportssci ?) and #sportstherapy spaces.

I'm not finding the search function to be super great on here, so maybe a hashtag signal or two will help. If you see this, please let me know?

Unsustainable subscription model in higher ed publishing: received an email from the uni library asking for an alternative to a high-quality e-textbook. It's 1 license/student which is triggered if a student opens the textbook and the licence lasts 1 year. The yearly costs are upwards of £5k 😐

Inspired this week: Speaking with a colleague who is also new to academia, his skill set is such that he could get a job elsewhere in industry and indeed has industry work. But he said he wanted to teach because too many go to London and we need people who care about teaching in the north too.

Physical therapist groups are having a heyday over this "news" about something called "piriformis syndrome."

The one good thing about this "news" is that Andie MacDowell praises exercise therapy as her treatment! Because it helps!

Take a small win where we can, I guess.

Personal theme of sorts to explore in 2025... As newer member of academia, I find myself straddling the line between "having clinical experience" and "having research experience." Some days it feels I don't have enough of either. Trying to find more examples of where having both is a bonus.

Wir wollen Fakten - wie sonst kann mann richtig lernen und verstehen?

Ein positiver Schritt.
More than 60 German-speaking universities and research institutes have just jointly announced they will cease activities on X because “the current orientation of the platform is not compatible with their core values” incl. scientific integrity, transparency and democratic discourse” 🧪

Having a discussion about concussion care today with students. Asked them to look up info on Return to Play. Student starts reading top results (i.e. AI-generated results) - and they're out of date. Can't help but think the quantity of info on the internet stating Old Info = AI stating Old Info.

Something I really like at my uni is how well the library is designed. It has books for fun. It has textbooks for students to check out so they don't have to ever buy one - big deal imo, coming from US higher ed! It has lots of computers, meeting rooms, quiet spaces. So positive to see.

Williwaw is all the west coast of the UK today 😬
Word of the morning is ‘williwaw’ (19th century): a sudden violent squall or a toppling gust of wind.

Goes well with ‘thunderplump’: a sudden downpour that soaks you to the skin in seconds.

Left the Bad Place and came to the Blue Place!

I'm a Sports Scientist and Athletic Trainer focused on youth/female sports, fatigue, and injury prevention. Will watch all the sports (except probably golf 🫣). Also interested in medical education and science outreach. If that's you, can we be friends?
