Aka hnldesign. You might known me from b3ta.com, those bobbing record store cat gifs, whatdoestheinternetthink.net, https://vintage-covers.com, foulomatic.hnldesign.nl or perhaps even "poldermodelstickers" and smeetsmakelijk.nl.
Just released v3 of my pet-project, "DOMule" — a lightweight module loader for JavaScript modules which enables any DOM element to request modules, so the page only loads scripts/modules for elements that actually require them.

Here's an excerpt of an amusing email I received, concerning a GIF I made for @b3ta.com in 2006.

I recently needed a grid layout in CSS. So I resorted to the "baseline grid" I built earlier (which I wrote about here: hnldesign.hashnode.dev/setting-a-fl...). As always, I thought "hold on, I can improve this". Turns out: I did improve it - a lot. Will write about it soon. #css #layout #baseline

If I have friends on here who are having mental health issues then please don’t use ChatGPT to deal with them.
Call or see your doctor and get professional human help.
It’s not your friend or therapist and it’s only going to make matters a lot worse.

This finally made me fully understand the viewbox, which is no small feat!
One of the most powerful tools in my toolbox is SVG. When combined with CSS and JavaScript, we can do some truly remarkable things. ✨

📝 I’ve just published a brand-new blog post that covers the most critical fundamentals. It’s chock full of interactive demos. 😄

Check it out:

So I asked ChatGPT to create a burger on a beach. Then I asked it to vectorize it. And this is what happened. I think I can safely say my job is still safe, for now.

Today marks my 20th birthday on B3ta.com. Twenty candles. Jesus.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this, but being on there is certainly something I wouldn't have wanted to miss

Started work on a custom #homeassistant card that visualizes energy flows — or any kind of flow that can be split into producing and consuming components. Think solar production and grid import vs consumption and grid return, battery charge vs discharge, gas/water usage, etc.

Apparently, it's now - finally - possible to animate an element to 𝚑𝚎𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝: 𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚘; in CSS:

Using 𝚒𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚙𝚘𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚎-𝚜𝚒𝚣𝚎: 𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚘𝚠-𝚔𝚎𝚢𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚍𝚜;

Support is 67% according to caniuse, so not quite widely available yet, but it's great that this is finally becoming a reality.

interpolate-size - CSS: Cascading Style Sheets | MDN
The interpolate-size CSS property allows you to enable animations and transitions between a <length-percentage> value and an intrinsic size value such as auto, fit-content, or max-content.
