Reader & reviewer of books on the second world war. 📚
Just finished over my early morning coffee.
Roger's research included access to German archives & so provides some much needed balance to the usual Allied perspective.
With many shorter chapters, it allowed for a broader range to be covered.
Highly readable & certainly recommended.

I'm a huge admirer of Hugh's Dunkirk book, but personally I struggle to keep an interest when a book's narrative is constantly interrupted to quote from first hand accounts.
Clearly well written and a huge book for the money, but sadly just not for me.

Four years ago on a beautiful November day. Whilst we stood in Guy Gibson's office at RAF Scampton, a Red Arrow taxied past.

Having arrived home soaked from working out in Storm Claudia, it feels rather appropriate that these two review books should be waiting for me.💦🚢 #histbookchat

As it's that time of year.
I remember reading this series when I was still living at home. Was it that draughty old house, or these stories that made the hairs on my neck stand up? #histbookchat

Yesterday's arrival follows a long search. Probably the most expensive booklet that I will ever buy, this local publication from 1991 had only one print run and quickly sold out. #HistBookChat

I've been gradually reducing my book reviewing commitments in readiness for October's planned changes at work.
Delighted then to have just finished this highlight of my reading in 2025. #histbookchat

Publication day for Andrew Morton's 'Winston And The Windsors'.
A fantastic account of W.C's relationship with the monarchy through two world wars & an abdication.

Luckily I now have a few days off that coincides with Storm Amy's arrival.
For this #histbookchat and weekend, I shall be reading & reviewing a new book that I cannot tell you about! ??🤫??
It is excellent so far & under a publicity embargo until next week.
So a photo of my most recent purchase. 📚

In-between the review books, I've been reading @alishawkinsauthor.bsky.social first Oxford mystery.
A most intriguing story with fascinating characters that kept me guessing until the end.
I've really enjoyed it and now must get my skates on as book three comes out in October! 📚
