Reader & reviewer of books on the second world war. 📚
Retired by the RAF far too soon, the story of the Harrier's development & its service around the globe, deserves a worthy book. This is it.

Placed in charge of the weekly grocery shop at Tesco this evening and of course stopped off at the books section.
Very surprised on opening this book to find it signed by the late Mr Forsyth!
No sticker on cover to say so and the rest were also signed.

Been chipping away at this over the past week & was using a day off to push on, but I've given up. Of the 260 pages of narrative, the mission doesn't start until page 140. This followed chapter after chapter of introducing key figures.
Sorry Max, but Damien's is far more thrilling.

Just finished over my early morning coffee.
Roger's research included access to German archives & so provides some much needed balance to the usual Allied perspective.
With many shorter chapters, it allowed for a broader range to be covered.
Highly readable & certainly recommended.

I'm a huge admirer of Hugh's Dunkirk book, but personally I struggle to keep an interest when a book's narrative is constantly interrupted to quote from first hand accounts.
Clearly well written and a huge book for the money, but sadly just not for me.
