Everyone wants to talk about Superman saving the squirrel, or saying I love you 3 months into dating, or holding a dying robot, and I just wanna shake them and shout "And *why* do you like that part??"

(This is why.)

I hate variant covers so much. Slogging through 10 different listings for the same damn book when I am doing preorders is absolutely infuriating. #comics

Watched ROBOCOP (the original from 1987) again recently, and it was actually sort of fantastic?!? The movie is a weird mashup of cheesy stop motion robots, social commentary and a massive helping of gore. But it works. If anything i think I like it more now than I did when it came out!

Finished up THE MYTHMAKERS by @johnhendrix.bsky.social a few days ago and I love that it still is bouncing around in my thoughts. As a fan of Tolkien and Lewis this book is a joy. Hendrix explores a fascinating story, and tells it magnificently.
The Mythmakers: The Remarkable Fellowship of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien — John Hendrix Illustration
From New York Times bestselling, award-winning creator John Hendrix comes The Mythmakers, a graphic novel biography of two literary lions—C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien—following the remarkable story o...

Watched TRON with my son tonight, and when Gibbs says "Won't that be grand? Computers and the programs will start thinking and the people will stop" it hit a bit harder than I remember.

I have been preordering comics for over 30 years, and I absolutely hate everything about the process. It's hard to find what I want, tedious to keep track of what I have ordered, and requires unreasonable patience and discipline than

And yet the breakup of Diamond has somehow made it even worse.

The contempt that these folks have for the poor and under-privileged is galling. Yes, it is ethical to buy used books. Yes, it is ethical to borrow books from the library. Not everyone can afford to shop at Barnes & Noble, but everyone deserves the joy of reading.

And so my Eisner readthrough begins. Starting this year with the six nominees for Best Publication For Teens.

Congrats to Jen Wang, @jonahnewmancomics.bsky.social, @geneluenyang.bsky.social, Leuyen Pham, @davidfwalker.bsky.social, @marcuskwame.com, @mollyostertag.bsky.social and Adam de Souza!

My wife is a school librarian and Eisner voter, and so every spring we read all the Eisner nominated books we can lay hands on before she casts her ballot.

This is the first batch. Looking forward to digging into a great pile of comics!

We are alternating episodes of #Murderbot and #Reacher, and while both shows are excellent it is weird how they star essentially the same character - a casually homicidal loner unable to connect with normal humans who is a mortal danger to everyone they come into contact with.

Embraced my inner @mattzollerseitz.bsky.social and wrote one of my most personal pieces yet. It’s been hard to love the movies (or anything, really) in 2025, and it was Thunderbolts* (of all things!) that just absolutely demolished me.

FINALLY made it to the Jack Kirby exhibition at the Skirball. An incredible collection of his work, from the 1940s to the end of his life. The evolution of his style, the merger of science and myth, the anti fascist nature of it...wow. Kirby is the king.

Our family loves #eurovision, and tonight's semi-final was a lot of fun. That said, it continues to astonish me how terrible I am at figuring out who is going to do well.

Footage of me working on building a Batmobile last night, with my attention-demanding assistant.

Somehow he always knows exactly which piece I need, and then sits directly on it.

One of my current favorite comics is RED BEFORE BLACK from @boom-studios.com. It feels like a crazy mashup of Love and Rockets and Bound (remember that?...from the 90s?...Gershon and Tilly???)

Anyway, the story by Stephanie Phillips is a ton of fun and Sudžuka and Svorcina's art is gorgeous!

Having a great time today helping with the line and answering questions for #FCBD at my LCS.

Cool to see so many kids and families coming in to check out the store and give comics a try!

Got a chance to visit with @artebuen.bsky.social at C2E2 a couple of weeks ago and picked up his book ©ALIFORNIA, INC.

These are fantastic. Dave Law's art and colors gave the story a stylish modern look, and the idea of America divided and corporatized states seems all too believable. Recommended!

My LCS just sent me a bunch of DSTLRY pre-order cancellations this morning including upcoming issues of City Beneath Her Feet, Life, One For Sorrow and others.

Anyone else seeing this, or is it just a thing with my store?

I miss just going to the newsstand to get comics. Back before preorders, previews, and final order cut-offs. Yeah, you sometimes missed an issue, but it was fun and immediate. As things are now it is a painful slog. I dread hunting through multiple sites and catalogs to find what I want to order.

I actually went to the store today to get something I could have gotten on Amazon. Felt sorta nice. Might do it again.
