📣Our new paper is out in Science Immunology.

Yuki Masuo revealed two distinct subsets of peripheral helper T (Tph) cells in #RheumatoidArthritis.
@chimomonga.bsky.social has nicely illustrated Tph-cell life.

Another publication in Science Immunology. We revealed that stem-like peripheral helper T (Tph) cells self-renew, proliferate, and sustain the pathogenesis of #RheumatoidArthritis in the synovium.

“IGFL2 gene expression was specifically ⬆️ in #TPH cells in synovial tissue and fluid samples of patients with #RA. IGFL2 enhanced both TGF-β–induced production of CXCL13 by CD4 T cells and ⬆️ a shift in monocyte gene expression similar to pathogenic ones.”

Human CD4+ T cells regulate peripheral immune responses in rheumatoid arthritis via insulin-like growth factor–like family member 2
IGFL2 is preferentially expressed by TPH cells and influences CD4+ T differentiation and macrophage activation in rheumatoid arthritis.

The August issue of #Science #Immunology is out! This week: T peripheral helper cells expressing IGFL2 contribute to rheumatoid #arthritis; vagal TRPV1+ sensory #neurons protect against #influenza virus infection; & transfer of #Tregs alleviates #inflammaging in mice!

A primate-specific cytokine, IGFL2, produced by helper T cells in rheumatoid arthritis joints, has been identified as a potential marker of disease activity and a target for new therapies. doi.org/g9vwcj
When immune commanders misfire: New insights into rheumatoid arthritis inflammation
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the joints (the synovium), causing pain, swelling, and progressive damage.
