Great rods in that series, for sure! My first and still favorite trout rod of all time is the original G 884. Brilliant stick!

I hear you. It’s the ones we love that hurt the most.

We do what we must! 😆 I have this video me hooked into a very large salmon and my reel completely popping off my rod (my fault) and the comically relentless chase among two on the boat to secure said reel. I’ll see if I can find it.

Among the many uses of “fly”, Nuzzi is certainly one of the odder birds I’ve been privy to watch in the wild.
November 20, 2025 at 5:55 PM
😆 I’ve forgotten plenty of reels over the years but never when my rod was assembled and line strung. What was the back of your line connected to?

Need any guest lecturers? 😂

Not to sound fussy in any way, and I mean to help, but the fly you chose to represent Keys fly fishing is not at all what would be used for those species in that area.

It just all looks so gorgeous there. So many amazing places to visit. Such a short time on this earth.

I wish I had a specific rec among those three but have never fished those conditions you describe. One day, I would love to, however!
November 19, 2025 at 4:13 PM
Agreed. Love those long 8 wts. for those very reasons (and when needed, long mends).
November 19, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Your beloved Scott has wonderful 8-wt. options, as you well know. I share that love. The Sage R8 is also very good AND the Orvis Helios 4 (in 9 wt.) has become my favorite bridge tool in the salt and estuaries. And I will say, I’m as surprised as anyone to be so impressed with that rod.
November 19, 2025 at 4:04 PM
The 8-wt. is indispensable. To address your question, Aarne, that is a single hander and while the one in the pic is a 10-wt., we fish 8-10 and in good swing water, the double-handers. Why the 10 here? We were also into big Chinook in that stretch.

Nike is dabbling. You saw the Nocta thing with Drake and Abel?
