Impressions from the fantastic Rockit festival in Groningen yesterday. Many wow moments with Mary Halvorson, Immanuel Wilkins, Makaya McCraven and Dave Holland. Among these highlights, the new Dave Holland trio stood out as a masterly and emotional performance of jazz Grandezza #jazzsky

Spent the weekend at the #MoersFestival. Weather was mediocre, not all organisation perfect, but this is the most daring, humanistic, emotional, in short: best festival on earth. Cheers and thanks to a fantastic team putting this miracle together every year #Jazzsky

Some firsts are simply fantastic. Today was my first day in my new office in the new @hifmb.bsky.social building - boxes unpacked, laptop connected. Great to see the buzzing vibes in the hallway

Great plenary at World Biodiversity Forum #wbf2024 by Thijs Biersteker about facts, feelings & the role of art in communication about (global change) research. The statements are superb and chime so much with the art-science & communication work @hifmb.bsky.social www.hifmb.de/transfer/art-science/

Opening Session World Biodiversity Forum #wbf2024 with great plenary by David Obura @ipbes.bsky.social. Very good reflection on Nature Positive narratives & biodiversity pathways. But formulating biodiversity targets as 'threshold %' is dangerous as it indicates some biodiversity can be abandoned

#HeimspielWissenschaft brings scientists back to their hometown to present their research. Yesterday I interacted with my former high school in #Papenburg & gave a public lecture in the evening. Great discussions, super questions around marine biodiversity in changing climate🧪 @icbm-uol.bsky.social

Were latitudinal gradients of #biodiversity always present on Earth? Nope, Erin Saupe @eesaupe.bsky.social showed in a great seminar @icbm-uol.bsky.social today and offered insights on mechanisms shaping spatial patterns in speciation and extinction. Highlight of a great visit.

Fantastic retreat of the Plankton Ecology Lab today, the first joining both @icbm-uol.bsky.social and @hifmb.bsky.social planktologists. We managed to discuss where we stand, where we want to go, what defines us as a group, how we improve our outreach, amo. What a super 😎 team.

Indeed, their first album 'How Long Is Now' carries the same versatility blending exploration and drive. I love the Barre Phillips quote in the liner notes: 'great music is great because when you're listening to it, you want for nothing else'. Definitely true for this record.

Having a jamie branch listening party just now. Going through her albums makes you realise how forceful this music is, how brilliant the fly or die quartet, and which genius the world lost 16 months ago.
