There have been over 4,000 immigrants, in the greater Los Angeles area alone, that have been detained.

These are the first legislation in the nation to provide real transparency and accountability for ICE agents as communities across the country and the state continue to experience mass immigration sweeps by masked, unidentified agents.

I now call for the remaining California National Guard members to be defederalized.

There are natural disasters across the State and nation, where their skills and service are urgently needed. That is where they belong.

Amid the escalating immigration raids, I'm proud to have led yesterday's motion, which will expand telehealth services, prescription deliveries, food deliveries, and more for impacted LA County residents through our health and social services departments.

I stand firmly with our residents who are exercising their right to peacefully protest, and I thank all those who continue to prioritize safety during this time. We must remain focused, organized, and united.

Our families, youth, and neighbors have experienced terror, sadness, and disruption at the hands of the Trump administration. In the face of that, we must continue to show respect for our communities, even when this administration does not.

Nonviolent action, like that of Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King, have demonstrated united peaceful action will carry the voice of the people most clearly.

While a small number of individuals attempted to provoke unrest in East Los Angeles, their actions do not reflect this movement or the vast majority of protesters there.

These demonstrations, including those in East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley, have remained largely peaceful, with residents protesting through music, dance, and pride in our communities.
