That was an interesting read. We were on the right track, except it was dry stone Yorkshire walls! Enjoyed his thinking process too re the 'light wall'. If you don't already know it, you might also enjoy artist Sean Scully's book of photographs of Aran walls (he painted them many times).

Wonderful. The view from the back is striking. Reminds me of Irish dry stone walls and where the 'gaps' are deliberately inserted to let strong winds easily pass through. amp.rte.ie/amp/1484917/

This has happened several times, Peter, so it could be my phone too.

Don't blame them, tbh. Key Q is what our Gov is doing to supply houses that ordinary Irish citizens can afford? We need a major shift re *the Irish Government building* various price levels of affordable homes for means-tested buyers. #SpeirGorm From the @irishtimes.com, Aug 22:

The comments in the thread are hard to believe, as in how could this be allowed to happen re privatising our airspace. #SpeirGorm

Prof. William (Bill) Watson, would likely be very interested in seeing a copy of your family's letter, with the family's permission. They are apparently only just beginning their analysis work re this mass grave discovery. If interested, the Duffy's Cut website contains a university email address.

Very nice design. Athlone's old library is now Luan Gallery, and they did a great job there too. Am particularly fond of this walk-through, where it is suspended over the river Shannon.

They built a wonderful new library in Athlone too, in the most central location. You can't see it from this angle, but the view across from it is a picturesque 1827 church building with lovely old stone walls and trees. They did a great job. In a 2024 county survey, library use had gone up by 39%.

Regrettably, I can no longer attend the screening of the new #EdnaOBrien documentary in the Irish Film Institute, tomorrow at 18.10pm. If anyone is interested, dm me and they are very welcome to the ticket. #SpeirGorm #BlueRoad @breakoutpictures.bsky.social

Great point re the impact of the Treaty. Just took a quick look there and, if this list is correct, the UK records for the North just have a gaping loss there for this period.

I live beside the Phoenix Park so it was wild to see the trees swaying so fiercely during some strong gusts. Thankfully, the ones I can see are all still standing and if you look closely from this angle, the birds are now back sitting in them - a good sign, I think! #SpeirGorm ##StormEowyn

The birthplace of McCormack in my hometown, Athlone. Such a pity the building wasn't bought by the town council.
