The 2,704-mile (4352 km) Toronto-Vancouver run took 68 hours, over 15 hours faster than the previous schedule of the "Dominion." By comparison, today’s @VIA_Rail version of the “Canadian” takes 95 hours to travel between the two cities. 3/3

Perhaps most widely mourned were Trains 1/9 and 2/10, the last runs of the Montreal/Toronto-Vancouver "Canadian" over the CP route. There were many additional last runs throughout Canada. VIA Rail’s passenger system was effectively reduced by 50% on this day in 1990. 3/3
