true! i am interested in the content changes brought with stampede and there are some really compelling moments. my main gripe is its pacing + its sandpapering of complex moral positions tbh. mixed bag 🤷 but i’ll still be showing up to watch stargaze so

u know how tv shows used to be long enough u could just throw a weird one in there. like breaking format/genre was a tool that could be used to recontextualize/expand the horizons established. me imagining this for like. beginning of trimax 1 line and grandma. or freebird

i used to be a “no adaptations” guy but then i watched the fargo tv series and it really opened my mind up to adaptation as almost a transformative act, which i find really interesting. the point isn’t reproduction but using the source as medium. retilling the same soil to grow a new plant

yea, i do think it requires a peace with the act of adaptation; i think of that gdt quote about adaptation being like marrying a widow; you respect the dead but ultimately must move on with your marriage. i think fandom will find ways to be annoying nmw lol so its divorced from my personal visions

— instead of modern 10-13 episode rush that gives so little time to get familiar with setting/characters that changes to those things have less impact (which is how i felt w/ stampede). i like that 98 feels like it has time for long shots and lingering in the setting and the characters’ lives

yea, trimax was the nail in the coffin for me and i consider it my favorite and the most cohesive version of the story. that being said, i think the value i did get out of 98 was tied up with appreciation for an age of anime that worked at a slower pace/let the story draw out—
