3/ I'm old to remember when these company crossovers felt like distinctly different takes assembled from uniquely different teams.

2/ I wish I'd picked up DC's version of the Batman/Deadpool crossover but, at a glance, it looked so much like the Marvel version I just assumed it was a variant or 2nd printing...

1/ Light week at the comic shop. Happy to see JRJR back after a brief ASM hiatus. Fun new villain too -- he looks a bit like Hush, but the bandages make more sense once you learn his powers.

The most controversial creative choice in this week's #NCBD pile...is the ABSOLUTEly bizarre color scheme for a Rocketfellers Halloween cover which made me think... "But, Debbie...pastels?"
October 31, 2025 at 1:23 PM
That Treasury really livened up my #NCBD haul. While there are two promising new titles (The Phantom and Invisible Man), I've fallen way behind in reading the others...except USM, which is unfortunately a mind-numbingly dull series I'm about to drop.

I snagged this absolute classic at my local comic shop on Wednesday. Looking sharp at almost 50 years old. The cover is a bit loose, so I'll have to read this bad boy carefully.

And...if someone can explain how in the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth Doctor Strange could have a 450th milestone issue, I'm very curious. Ah, nvm - they're counting 109 issues of Strange Tales from before he was created.

Last week saw DWJ's final ish of Transformers. I'm about 10 issues behind reading that, so I may dip out after this, despite Kirkman and Mora taking over.

Got busy and missed about a month of posts tracking my Wednesday warrior hauls. Today's was a small pile, since I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever skipping the $8 Deadpool/Batman cash grab/crossover.

So...how did this happen? Sliding timeline covers this?

Inspired by the 9/11 attacks, young David Colton grows up to become a "lost" Captain America and later teams up with the real Cap... at a point when Steve's just come out of the ice? 2/

Last week's #NCBD grabs. Chip Zdarsky's new Captain America #1 is off to a promising start with one major problem: the timeline makes no sense in mainline Marvel continuity... 1/

That's more like the Returns suit logo. The '89 batsuit had a uniquely different tail. Here's one of the crests from a prop auction.

Successful trip to the comic shop for #NCBD. Ain't no way the Giant-Size ish will justify its $8 cover price, but I love seeing Mark Buckingham back on Spider-Man. Also grabbed some back issues to read.

#NCBD pile. Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell continues to impress. I wish McNiven had been able to continue coloring his artwork -- that first issue looked remarkable. Likewise, Batman Hush 2 remains a big ol' mess.

Happy *real* Star Wars day. May the hi-res vinyl cover art be with you.

This week's comics haul. ASM was had some great moments but this soda-and-mushrooms story is still...very, very odd.

#NCBD haul. Dark Patterns and Flash Gordon have my interest today. I'm way behind reading Transformers.

I took my son to see Revenge of the Sith at our local Cinemark yesterday. We enjoyed the film, laughed at all the meme-moments, and, while I wouldn't say I liked it any better than I did 20 years ago, it was still fun night at the theater. And the John Williams score is wonderful (of course).

Same angle, similar pose, same motion and rhythm... these Pepe Larraz covers from the first two issues of the new Amazing Spider-Man are nice...but also way too similar to run back to back like this.

Today feels like the first #NCBD in a month. My local comic shop has had shipping problems the last few weeks. Grabbed a few books today.

Two more vinyl OST covers recreated. Superman includes the odd capitalization on the credit for John Williams and "soundtrack" as two words. Star Trek's cover was a done for a friend; I personally prefer the title logo at the bottom with the glowing effect Peak painted behind it.

I really miss old vinyl soundtrack cover art. Here's a recreation of the cover for Stu Phillips' 1979 score to Buck Rogers. Painting by Victor Gadino.

To mark the new Amazing Spider-Man hitting comic shelves today from @thatJoeKelly @PepeLarraz and the great @JrRomita, here's an infographic showing every volume (stacked to scale) of ASM with a timeline of significant events in spider-history.
