Ideas: robustly fund public schools (including paying bus drivers and nurses a living wage), universal health care, accessible parental leave (regardless of gender), affordable pre-k, stop making women's healthcare illegal, etc. All reasons I've heard women my age + younger give for not having kids.

This is not one of my faculty members...but it could be.
My NEH grant was terminated in service of a new focus on “patriotic programming,” but as an American and an Americanist, I know that resisting this dangerous decision and the broader movement of which it is a part is my patriotic duty.

So. Compassion doesn't just mean having empathy or sympathy for someone. It's coupled with a desire to relieve or spare that suffering. I don't expect to receive that if things don't go the way I'm hoping. They shouldn't expect it from me.

I've spend the last week on a quiet island, with three excellent professors, as part of my job. I have slept better, cooked more, written more, and it's making me wonder what I could let go of in my every day life to have more of this.
