Music written, conducted, played, mostly opera.
So here's a question: @darcyjamesargue.com convinced me people's pervasive use of "literally" to mean "figuratively, but really picture it" legitimatizes the usage. Is there a point where Method could similarly mean two things, the actual Method, and the muddled common usage?

It was down to him and Oldman for the lead in Slow Horses, and he's never really gotten over it.

My eyes first fell on "James Dean-like" and so my assumption on starting to read the quote was this was going to be a complaint about GDT totally misunderstanding James Dean.

Took time out this morning to work on transcribing the Jimmy Jones—an extremely rewarding endeavor.

True overall, but it is pretty central to DC's classical music scene. Lots of great classical music taking place outside its halls, but it still casts a pretty long shadow in that respect.

Would be welcome, would also take a 30 minute Scrubs/Abbott/etc-style comedy!

(also, assuming the friend in question was @isaacbutler.bsky.social who I don't think will mind me tagging him to reminisce about Shakespeare at the Landsburgh in the 90s)

I did not get to see it, but I was told by friends that did that when Patrick Stewart declaimed "as I am BLACK" he sold the hell out of it.

Something I have oft pondered, and I am super curious if you'd be willing to articulate the difference between what movies are good at vs. what operas are good at.

In Hazan's bolognese recipe she says "Add the wine, let it simmer until it has evaporated, then add the tomatoes." That second comma encompasses an HOUR. IMO, a comma should represent two minutes at most. Anything more, please use a period!

(I could simmer more aggressively, but the point stands.)

I don't remember a lot of performances from 23 years ago, but I do remember Carol playing some extraordinary solo Stockhausen at MSM that knocked my socks off. She is a wonder, looking forward to listening.

The play Shipwreck by Anne Washburn! In particular a scene that imagines a meeting between Bush and Trump (as described by Trump) which is so hilariously audacious I was crying-laughing.

Misread this as Plautus, now THOSE would have been prequels.

I wouldn't be so sad about dill, but I almost always leave out parsley when called for. I think Pesach ruined it for me.

Electric crowd energy when I saw it, I think the 84th and Broadway AMC. Never will forget the Battle Royale gal stabbing the guy she's "flirting" with and the gentleman next to me chuckling "wrong answer!"
