As an audience member and certainly critic, ideally you are open-minded and fair. As an artist, your opinions are of primary value in shaping your own art. Those opinions could be WILDLY unfair, but if it helps you figure out what you want to create, that's OK!
Yeah honestly I am agnostic on this and most other things QT, but there is a stan-culture-adjacent, all-or-nothing quality to the insistence that a perfect artist must have perfect opinions and someone with bad opinions must be judged a bad artist. Just live with the sloppiness and dissonance!
I am actually pro-Tarantino talking shit. Not only has he always been obnoxious, his bad opinions serve as an important reminder we should not ask or demand that our beloved artists share our sensibilities. I also think Paul Dano will be FINE, and what QT espouses here is relatively benign.
