So glad Midnight Mass is on there too! I think about Erin’s monologue about what happens when you pass a lot. Thank you for such a beautiful scene, within such an emotionally profound series - and same with THOHH - both so well deserved!

And it’s not that this doesn’t reflect something true to irl too (disability day of mourning is grim), I’m just not sure it was handled very well, it’s the only part of the episode I wasn’t sure was handled very well. I’m still sitting with it and thinking it over.

Manage pain +discomfort to a point where it makes them spacey +disconnected also could play into this as metaphor. There’s a complicated media trope of characters with disabilities being killed/asking to die for fear of being a burden to their loved ones - I think this played into that trope too.

Are driven into more +more financial extremes to try and manage it, pushing them beyond breaking point and this making both of them more stressed/sick, I think that’s really accurate and true to irl, even the use of the premium programme and how it can be read as coded for drugs to -

I read it differently, I think it’s about how a lot of her condition in the ep is coded, esp since at one point it is literally compared to Tourette’s syndrome. The episode very accurately depicts a couple attempting to financially manage a disability where healthcare costs are going up and they -

Anyway last year I got to see Ian Mckellan as Falstaff in Player Kings, an adaptation of Henry IV & felt so lucky, moved & grateful that I got to go & experience great art & challenge the assumption it wasn’t for me because I’m AuDHD & working class. Everyone should get that experience! 5/5

Because I think his work can be reflexively dismissed bc of the association with it being stuffy/old bc of its association with it being upper/middle class (at least in the U.K., that was my experience!) That’s what put me off it too. But he really was for everyone! 4/5
