3/3 We're exploring what the Abbey and its precinct may have looked like at this time, after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the late 1530s. The Abbey complex was likely reconfigured significantly to accommodate Henry, his wife and their sizable retinues! Work continues...

2/3 - It's likely that Henry VIII and his then-wife Catherine Howard stayed in apartments within the Abbey's cloister in 1541 as part of his royal progress to the north of England.

We reconstructed several buildings known to have been owned by members of the medieval Jewish community on Coney Street. These were grand stone houses, with living quarters on the upper floor and shop spaces for rental below. #3dmodeling #medieval #york #archaeology

This 3 year AHRC project explores the journeys - or 'progresses' - of Henry VIII through archival sources, archaeology, music and material culture... and we're looking forward to creating 3D visualisations of some of the key places he visited! More to follow soon...
