“California is moving faster than the U.S. as a whole, but to really make inroads, CA needs to also electrify transport, industry and buildings as fast as it is building batteries, while growing offshore wind, utility solar, rooftop solar and enhanced geothermal"
"The surge in storage is meeting with even faster growth of solar in the state. Together, solar+batteries have eliminated >37% of fossil gas use on the state’s main grid in just 2y"

Newsom touts California's record battery energy gains at U.N. climate conference
California has now reached 16,942 megawatts of available battery storage — about one-third of the estimated capacity needed to reach the state's goal of 100% clean energy by 2045.

How heatwaves are changing electricity demand in Europe: I’m quoted in the FT on the unprecedented challenges our energy systems face this summer.

As repeated heatwaves drive demand we’re witnessing a “massive change” in how and when energy is used.

Europe relies heavily on imported fossil fuels—a big risk for energy security, competitiveness, and climate action.

Geopolitical tensions can disrupt supply and spike prices, making us all vulnerable. Investing in local clean energy is key for resilience, jobs, and a sustainable future.
