I'm a career change MSW student hoping to do community-focused, grounded policy work when I graduate.
Might as well call themselves the Department of Government Efficiency.

I'm really bitter at my partner. She tricked me into falling in love with her by being charming and generally good company. How dare she do that to me?

You have a really great take on this, but I do think rules-heavy games have a sort of flaw that many players fall into. Heavy rules lead people to think they know THE way to do things and there can be no argument. I have had people tell me what my character is going to do. Systems impact behaviour.

Love this. History isn't decided in single moments. It just looks that way in the history books. It's not always satisfying to make little impacts, but it is always important.

I'm not crying over CEO deaths, but I'm also not convinced that killing the guy actually affected change. I also don't agree with the above post that nonviolence is the only answer, but individuals enacting violence based on their own judgement is a real dangerous path to walk.

I will say that I generally fall in the "form my own opinion" camp regardless of anything else. I don't think I know things any better than anyone else, but I have been burned in both directions by reviews before.

For me, it's his consistency. Look at a historical moment in the past and he's there, generally doing something morally justifiable, if not clearly on the right side of history 100% of the time. Most important is probably not actually a politician, but Bernie is the most important politician for me.

I could see him enjoying piecing the lore together and it's got a very mythological component to it, but I think Tolkien was too much invested in optimistic fantasy for Dark Souls to land, maybe.

Codification of exclusion is much stronger than codification of inclusion. Just ask people of color. I think this would just result in trans people being excluded from sports and other rights would be restricted through more surreptitious means.

I don't know, I think they would gladly pass something like this. Where I agree with you is that they wouldn't STOP there. These snakes will take any inch of ground they can get under the guise of backing off.

Although it's very queer in the ways you outlined, those things are just nice. Like, found family is a necessity for many queer folks, but JK was probably just recreating the hero/myth cycle. I think this is just even more evidence that cis-heteronormative folks would also benefit from queer theory.

It is. This is all a mess, but there's also opportunity for progress on the other end, so I am still hopeful.

I'm gonna call it here since we both seem to have an understanding of each other at this point. I know it's been contentious at times, but I hope you've gotten something of value. I have!

I think the folks that won't vote for a woman are mostly voting republican anyway. Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people that didn't turn out for Clinton or Harris were more upset about them and their policy choices specifically. I think AOC has the passionate following they both lacked.

I suppose we will see. Politicians like he and AOC and many up-and-comers show a lot of promise in my eyes. I'm of the opinion that this is a "darkest just before the dawn" situation. But the dems could definitely hinder that if they decide to.

We agree that isn't sustainable, but the far left isn't going anywhere, so I argue the answer is to step left, not right. Make tangible steps to incorporate some leftist thoughts. The GOP is gonna win sometimes, so it might not be so bad to make more progress in the time we have.

I get (and share) the frustration. But people don't stay home for no reason. They're not just being lazy or grumpy. They feel abandoned and unheard.
February 23, 2025 at 12:19 PM
What change has happened is, in large part, because of people on the far left putting pressure on more centrist politicians in power. I don't disagree with you, but change isn't handed down to us, it is demanded by us. I don't understand why this makes you think the left should stop pushing.

I promise you, I have intently read everything you have written. Do you feel I am inaccurate in summarizing your arguments? Happy to be corrected if I'm misunderstanding you.
