"Not expensive for wines of this quality. While modern wines will last...vintage port is accessible at a younger age these days. Croft 2016 was already showing well."

Two important points--Port is underpriced at the upper level. And much more accessible lately.

My favourite thing about the (rather disappointing) new Frankenstein film is how the doctor looks increasingly like Marty Feldman once he's created the monster. Clearly a nod to Mel Brooks' infinitely superior version of the story.

With port season (yes, it's a thing) well underway, I've written a little ode to the greatest winter drink plus some recommendations from £13-£100. For all your fortified wine needs. henryjeffreys.substack.com/p/port-speci...
Port special 2025
An ode to the joy of port plus an updated list of my favourites to buy this Christmas including for British readers a ridiculous price for Graham’s LBV at Waitrose.

"In my early days of drinking, back in the 1990s, often the only way of knowing if a pub was posh was the clientele. The pub itself looked exactly the same as the other ones, except all the punters were wearing Hunter wellies." Some great nostalgia in Will's latest.
There is a new @londonbeercity.bsky.social out today, featuring the King's Road and a pub called the Queen Charlotte. You can get it for free by signing up here: www.willhawkes.net/london-beer-...

I have just heard some really sad news that Peter Hall from Breaky Bottom, one of England's greatest winemakers, has just died. Wrote a little thing on the great man here: henryjeffreys.substack.com/p/a-tribute-...
A tribute to Peter Hall
A legend of English wine died on Wednesday at 82. I didn't know him well but loved the unique wines he made at Breaky Bottom in Sussex and was fortunate to meet him a few times.
