Pretty sure that's actually the thing. Something changed in shampoo broadly at some point and it just stopped being a thing.

We learned how to calculate tax forms. How to balance a checkbook. And because it was Wisconsin, we learned how to score bowling.

Because THAT was a civic responsibility.

We got how to register to vote. We got lessons on what to expect for jury duty including how Wisconsin's court system differed from other states' that one might see on television(!). We got squared away with applications for Social Security numbers because that wasn't an at-birth thing then. 3/

and some history of governments in general, and gave a lot of Americans who passed through the tender mercies of Mr Fuchs ("'Fewx', thank you") the basics of US's 3-Article governance but also Westminster system and a few other forms. And then things got a little more... general. 2/

40 years ago, the Civics class I attended was in 8th grade. It was called "Governement" because it was a midpoint between the assumption that everyone needed this and the slide you note. But it was a Civics class in all respects that matter. It taught the forms of government, 1/
