Here until the weirds take over
Putting Target out of business won't help small businesses. It will help Amazon. I don't even have enough characters to list the ways in which that is bad for society. I fully believe in supporting small businesses but we also need toilet paper. A permanent boycott on Amazon is the path forward.

Respectfully, Target doesn't belong on this list. They already got the message and still do far more DEI than other companies. We need a permanent boycott on Amazon, they are a legitimate threat to our democracy. Target is not.

If you have to choose one, please boycott Amazon over Target. Target slightly scaled back DEI compared to Amazon that stores all our data, controls what news gets published at WP, union busts, doesn't employ as many people, harder to sue for harmful products, etc.

But they never did nearly as much DEI as target did in the first place. Target still has an LGBTQIA+ shop, Black owned shop, adaptive clothes for disabled people, etc. Costco doesn't have any of that and sells brands that support Trump. Not that Costco is bad but Target is still better on DEI

There are legit more criminals in ICE than in migrant communities. ICE is more or less welfare for violent racists.

They are almost exclusively picking people up in places where they know there are no armed criminals (court hearings, school pick up lines, work, gentrified neighborhoods in major cities). Which makes their tough guy costumes and large weapons even more pathetic. Mall cops have more dangerous jobs.

Exactly. And they still have an LGBTQIA+ shop, Black owned business shop, adaptive clothes for disabled people, etc. If trying DEI and not getting it exactly right is punished more harshly than never doing it at all, we're just teaching companies not to bother with DEI. That seems counterproductive.

We did the same thing with Me Too. We treated Al Franken the same as Harvey Weinstein and where did that get us? Target is the company most sympathetic to our causes and they messed up. Work with them to do better. Long term boycotts are for companies that we know won't ever do better like Amazon.

I live in a small city. We struggle to maintain a grocery store and almost all of the pharmacies have closed. People need toilet paper and basic necessities that you can't shop locally for. Putting target out of business means people here will shop Walmart or Amazon. Is that better?

The anti Target crowd moved to Costco but as far as I can tell, Target still sells more Black and female owned brands. The Kirkland brand also sells many Trump supporting products. Which is not to say we shouldn't shop Costco, just that it's not as simple as going to a different store.

While I generally support the boycotts, I have concerns with the way the left has singled out Target and worry it will drive business to worse companies in the long run. Doing slightly less DEI is not on the same level as donating to Trump, helping ICE, or the outlandish villainy of Jeff Bezos.

This has the same vibe as the people who don't leash their dogs, insist the dog is really friendly (because it is fine around them), and then can't get a handle on the dog when it inevitably starts chasing and biting everyone. The leash was there for a reason, John.

She showed up with one of the few Republicans that stood up to Trump. Why would we demonize her for that? If we won't vote for our person because they simply reached out to the other side, then we're no better than the red hats that only govern for those who follow dear leader's script.

I think we mostly agree but my point is that WE are the Dems. There is no big conspiracy in the party against us. The DNC is a large organization that has the impossible task of making a lot of very different people happy. MAGA is a cult and saying stuff like that just feeds their paranoia about us.

The best analogy that I can think of for liberals is someone berating the firemen for not putting their house fire out soon enough instead of berating the arsonist. One side is at least trying to help while the other is literally burning it to the ground. They are not the same.

We really need the abstainers and third party folks to acknowledge that their approach hasn't worked either. It lost for Gore, Clinton, and Harris. Were they perfect? No. But your ideas aren't as popular as you think they are and you're better off joining the people most sympathetic to your causes.

My proof that going out to vote for the better of two options works is math. We lost because people sat home or voted third party. No victories were notched, no progress was made, and we're all 1000% worse off for it, including the Palestinians.
