The Civil Affairs Commission informs the Prisoners Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Club of the martyrdom of administrative detainee Moataz Abu Zeined in Soroka Hospital 13/1/2025 Ramallah – The Civil Affairs Commission informed the Prisoners Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Club of the death of administrative detainee Moataz Mahmoud Abu Zneid (35 years old) from Dura, Hebron, at Soroka Hospital. He had been detained since June 27, 2023, and was married with a single child. According to his family, he did not suffer from any health issues prior to his detention. In a joint statement on Monday, the Prisoners Commission and the Prisoners Club said that based on an initial report from aÿ was declared dead on the night of January 12, 2025. The statement noted that with the martyrdom of Abu Zneid from Dura, the number of prisoners who have died in Israeli prisons since the beginning of the extermination war has risen to 55, whose identities are known. This is the highest number in history, making this period the bloodiest in the history of the prisoners' movement since 1967. The total number of known prisoners who have died since 1967 has now reached 292. Additionally, dozens of detainees from Gaza remain forcibly disappeared. Abu Zneid is the fifth administrative detainee to die in Israeli prisons since the start of the extermination war. The commission and the club emphasized that Abu Zneids case—he had been arrested five times, mostly under administrative detention, during which he launched hunger strikes to protest his detention—represents a new crime in the record of Israel’s growing brutality, which has intensified since the beginning of the ongoing extermination war. They further stated that the situation of prisoners and detainees is a humanitarian catastrophe and constitutes another facet of the extermination war, aimed at carrying out more executions, assassinations, and liquidations against prisoners and detainees. The commission and the club warned that the increasing number of prisoner deaths will take a more dangerous turn as the thousands of detainees in Israeli prisons continue to face systematic crimes, including torture, starvation, physical and sexual assaults, medical negligence, and the imposition of conditions that deliberately lead to serious and infectious diseases, in addition to unprecedented levels of deprivation. They held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for these deaths and renewed their call for the international legal system to take effective action to hold Israeli leaders accountable for war crimes and to impose sanctions that would isolate Israel internationally. They called for restoring the role of the international human rights system, ending its alarming paralysis in the face of the ongoing extermination war, and putting an end to the exceptional immunity granted to Israel, which has placed it above accountability and punishment. Prisoner statistics for January 2025: (Note: These figures do not include all detainees from Gaza.) • Total prisoners: Over 10,400 • Female prisoners (as of 9/1/2025): 85, including four from Gaza whose identities are known • Children: At least 320 • Administrative detainees: 3,376, including approximately 95 children and 22 women • Unlawful combatants: 1,886
