Ha, looks like we have the answer:

Noting the congressional pension is based on service time, it kicks in at 5 years and her retirement date - Jan. 5, 2026 - will be the first business day after she passes five years since her first swearing in. bsky.app/profile/heli...
Any idea why she's quitting then? Her statement isn't very coherent (big surprise), although it would make more sense as an explanation of just not running for re-election.

Her statement isn't very coherent (what a shock), although it would make more sense as an explanation of just not running for re-election. Some other grift lined up in January?

On a meme-bursting note, I assume that almost none of the Sinatra-Farrow crowd are aware of how much Ronan looks like his 100%-certain granddad (Mia's father):

These protesters have a very clear message: all Israelis are settlers, anyone entering a synagogue hosting an Israel event is a legitimate target for a global intifada. Any criticism of their language that includes "but settlements are still bad" will not be heard by the protestors as condemnation.

It's a big deal because some of his gun nut followers have been inspired by his incitement to threaten and even kill people, e.g. the Dem state senators in Minnesota.

Correction: "my butter sculpture of Bill Doran" should actually have been "@psr1973.bsky.social's butter sculpture of Bill Doran." We regret the error.

Does this mean my butter sculpture of Bill Doran isn't going to be the centerpiece of your store?!

You mean the rare occasions where one of their shows starts going on air with "hey, this issue polling is, uh, not looking so good for us"?
November 20, 2025 at 3:45 PM
How sure are we that Trump ever sees any professionally done private polling? He's set things up in this administration so that any potentially adverse info gets suppressed before ever reaching him, so who's left to do any real internal polling?

News/sports TV formats are usually pretty similar. ESPN for years had a Sunday morning panel show and a one-on-one interview show, both long since cancelled. Shouty daily panels and debate shows are almost all they do now, as many of the top younger talents have moved primarily to podcasts.
November 20, 2025 at 3:19 PM
As someone who follows both worlds very closely, this isn't quite true. While there has been a sports data analysis revolution in recent years, attempts to push it into public discussion shows have failed, with TV sports shows pretty much all defaulting to jocks + bloviators shouting at each other.

I might try paying a bit more attention to the GOP Senate primary in my home state--KY, for the seat McConnell is retiring from--which is happening in May. From what I've gleaned so far, the main candidates are furiously competing for Trump's attention and trying to one-up each other in devotion.

We also don't know, at all, that a Jan 6 conviction would have doomed Trump's electoral fate to a loss. What we DO know is that his felony convictions in NY just a few months earlier did NOT hurt his chances, which is unthinkable for literally any other candidate.

The KD Game 7 toe on the line shot is the most obviously significant "sliding doors" moment in recent postseasons, but with the unseen potential effect on Luka's future, that Game 6 one is up there too.
November 19, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Interesting to consider how much SGA reaching on the PJ corner 3 attempt at the end of that Game 6 might've changed things. If there's no foul and PJ misses, and then OKC wins Game 7 at home...

There were definitely posts about Sherill blowing it based on Emerson showing her up by 1 or whatever. Although the posts I saw were more "see this is what happens when you don't run inspirational candidates like Zohran."

Ha, I posted this to Derp earlier and he said the same thing. Key quote is "for anyone thats currently saying 'they'll just heavily redact them, checkmate Trump,' look at how Trump absolutely shits himself every time they come up & ask yourself if this is a guy about to pull off a big coverup."

I'm definitely on Team These People Are Too Dumb And Disorganized To Pull That Off.

I agree it's too much to hope that "this is the one that finally gets him" or whatever, but I do think we can confidently say that this specific scandal stands out for having gone well beyond the point where he can control it.

But even Miller has never been credibly accused of cancelling a female subordinate's hotel reservation so that she would have to stay in the same room as him.

Also he gave them a pretty easy out by admitting that if he'd grown up with MCU movies as a kid, he might have liked them. Obvious response: "we hope that the young future artists of today who are inspired by his great body of work will also be inspired by our movies."

They link to this from last week, where ZM said he plans to call Trump (apparently to push back on sending more ICE to NYC), so could be Trump is inventing "he wants to meet with me" from that.
