There will be a whole lot of people participating whether they want to or not. Those folks will be SNAP recipients, federal workers who are laid off/ forced to work with no pay, and the tons of people laid off who can't find a new job. I will only shop at mom and pop stores that are locally owned.

Private donations are illegal. According to the Constitution, Congress is responsible for creating & paying the military. If Trump's billionaire buddies want to help the country, they should pay their fair share of taxes and donate a minimum of $1 billion each to the US Treasury in perpetuity.

$130 million could sure have helped the food banks or be put into housing for the homeless. That would offer some relief. To give military personnel each $10 is ineffective and an insult.

Congress has voluntarily given up their role and is no longer a check or balance. The executive branch cannot cancel appropriations nor accept donations. Apparently, none of the 3 branches are literate and do not understand the Constitution.
