June 23, HMI didn't leave the office. Our woodland setting is what makes us 'us'. How can they understand context without seeing it? You are correct - it shouldn't have needed that to happen. Still room for improvement. Judgement based on snapshot of subjects. I couldn't show maths as data too good🤯

They seemed genuinely interested in what we are doing. And interacted with the children and saw the grounds. Allowed us to return if there was anything we had forgotten to share.

I don't understand this either - my class use pen for all subjects. Pen for writing and pencils for drawing. I find their maths books look neater and easier to follow since I made the change a few years ago.

Favourite so far is looking at different Fairy washing pod's pricing - which should I buy? It was a problem I was actually faced with at the supermarket. Y6 not only worked it out but also wrote to Sainsbury's to complain about confusing pricing!

Totally agree with real life links. I am pushing for more contextual teaching through stories and real problems.

Place Value.Subitising.Playing with & manipulating numbers to create understanding- number sense / real reasoning.Mental strategies. Equal focus on +- facts alongside x tables.Explicit teaching of problem solving.Less fraction content. Measures can be taught through PV (powers of 10) & contextually.

Slims down the maths content. Need time to embed core maths along with exploring through problem solving.

Also created self portraits inspired by Opie's Blur album cover using photos and an ipad app (can't remember which one). (the first one is my son's 😍)

I've just bought a copy of this to use as a context for a whole-school maths week. I love all the pop-ups/little details.
