Looking for beauty and special moments in nature and beyond. Photography of landscapes, architecture, animals, city scenes, street - whatever catches my eye, either at home or during travel.
“The Listening Troll” by Thomas Dambo, Danish sculptor/artist known for his giant wooden sculptures made out of recycled materials. This troll is one of six exhibited at Filoli in Woodside, CA, through November 10, 2025.

It was a beautiful and fogless day, except for the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge which rose majestically above a remaining area of fog in the distance. With new nectar in the feeder, the little hummingbird took perfect aim with its long and pointy beak.

Samplings from Ruth Asawa’s Retrospective at SFMOMA. Her tied-wire mobiles, mostly in large geometric shapes, were hung in interesting groupings where shadows became part of the visual magic. She worked in a medium - “crocheted” wire - transforming craft onto stunning works of art.

Is it a mallard? Almost black and so different from the other ducks, it had found a lovely spot along the lake to sit and let me capture this photo.

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

A happy sight: During my walk this afternoon I spotted one of the Great Blue Herons that has returned to the lake. So far I have seen three herons nesting in a nearby tree.

This bird caught my eye today. Upon closer look, it was different from the white gulls I am used to seeing and it was a European Herring Gull that had found its way to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Time flies and it was New Year’s Eve a year ago that I had an amazing encounter with this waddling Gentoo penguin in the Falkland Islands.

Lucky me: A twofer!!
The beautiful Great Egret stood perched on a branch long enough for me to walk across a bridge to get closer. To my surprise and delight, I also caught a Great Blue Heron hidden in the bushes and photo bombed the shot!

I like to focus in on individual birds, but found myself captivated by a lively group of coots, mallards and ring-necked ducks all swimming together in the lake.
